ABSTRACT This study was aimed at designing a sanitary landfill for University of Ilorin. The primary source of data for the study was obtained from the establishment unit of the University and the method of design involved is the use of volume and area requirement equation to determine the dimensions of the landfill. Based on the data collected, the University generates 1.825×105kg of solid waste per year. The area which the University requires for sanitary disposal for a year is 121m2. For the purpose of this study, a design period of 20years was chosen, which means that a total area of 2420m2 would be required. The volume of solid waste expected in the sanitary landfill for a year is 239m3 which means that a total volume of 4780m3 would be excavated as the trench to accommodate the solid waste disposed off.
