UC Idol Audition Application
SECTION 1: Welcome
UC Idol is a musical entertainment community event, featuring singers affiliated with the University of Calgary,
performances from the community, professor and guest judges, and a live voting audience. A school theatre
will be transformed into a spectacular evening, full of colourful lights, energy, and fun. Each show attracts
around 200-350 guests, and the event includes a pre-show reception and the show itself.
Anyone affiliated with the University of Calgary (e.g. student, professors, instructors, support staff, alumni,
network) can apply to be a UC Idol singer to sing for the title of the "UC Idol". Six singer positions are available
for application as solo performers only. Singers will sing at least twice (Round 1 and Round 2). The top 2
singers, based on cumulative votes from the first two rounds will sing a third time.
If you would like to perform as a group, your group is invited to audition as a "special performance". At least 1
out of 3 special performances at UC Idol will be reserved for people affiliated with the University of Calgary.
The other ones will be selected from the external community. If selected as a special performance, your group
will be given a 5-minute performance slot.
SECTION 2: 2A (Singer) or 2B (Special Performance) Instructions
2A: To apply to be a singer, submit two, 1-minute audition videos via a YouTube or online link
to ucalgaryidol@gmail.com. The video must be not edited at all, in order to be eligible. Please sing a cappella,
without any background music and without any the use of any instruments. Submit your video links with this
application. If you unable to send in a video, please email us for an appointment, and we can film the video for
you.
2B: To apply to be a special performer, submit one 5-minute audition video via a YouTube or online link
to ucalgaryidol@gmail.com. Special performances are not eligible for the "UC Idol" title. The video must not be
edited. Submit your video links with this application. If you unable to send in a video, please email us for an
appointment, and we can film the video for you.

SECTION 4: Selection Criteria
Please refer to: http://ucalgary.ca/idol/auditions_selection for full details. In short, selection is based on voting
from a pool of at least 20 people (organizing committee, previous contestants, etc.).
SECTION 5: Dates
Please refer to http://ucalgary.ca/idol/auditions for important dates you must be available for.
SECTION 6: Agreement
By sending in an application, you agree to the following:
 The show will be filmed and pictures will be taken. These media will be posted online for public
viewing.
 As a singer, you will need to provide all props, equipment, and/or backup dancers as needed. We will
provide you with a microphone and computer to play your background music and any PowerPoint
slides or videos you wish as background. We will provide lighting and speakers.
 As a singer, you are expected to participate in filming for UC Idol in-show videos, which will be shown
at the event and also posted on social media.
 If you are a singer or special performance for UC Idol, you will show up to the dry run, dress rehearsal,
and the day of event.
