Briefing paper for Stephen Lee - Urban Vision.
Highway maintenance.
Officers from Urban Vision have been asked to update members of the
committee on current highway maintenance standards and the plans that are in
place to improve the long term condition of our highways and better satisfy the
needs of Salford’s residents with regard to road maintenance.
1. Do we have Local/Highway Maintenance Plans?
2. What is the budget for the forthcoming financial year compared to the last
three year’s budget?
3. What is the present outstanding cost for pothole repairs?
4. How many potholes defects are registered on the highway inspection
system?
5. Are members provided with ‘identifiable actionable defects identified over
the previous month, and repairs carried out over the previous month’?
(Agreed in 2008).
6. Is the Cabinet approved policy still 25mm footway and 50mm
carriageway?
7. Is highway work under 100k still divided equally between Urban Vision,
Birse and Tarmac?
8. With regards to the 2 hour, 24 hour and 28 day repair targets; can you
please provide an overview of our current and comparative performance;
including details of any other targets you monitor (service standards)?
9. Do we work more collaboratively with utility companies, in planning
excavations and reinstating the highway; so as to mitigate disruption, and
impact on residents and local businesses?
10. After a utility/contracture company has excavated, completed subsequent
works as quickly as possible and then reinstated the highway, what is the
procedure that UV follows to make sure that the reinstatement work is in
keeping / same standard / if not better as the original highway surface?
Do they pay for the council/UU to carry out an inspection?
