Personal Computer, Server and Data Storage Equipment
The City of Salford is looking to establish a framework with suppliers of PCs, Severs
and Data Storage Equipment to facilitate the Council’s requirements for the next 5
years. The Council needs a supplier to work alongside the Council to deliver
equipment, installation, maintenance and consultancy services for large and smallscale projects that the council is currently and will be involved in. These projects
include E.Government and an ICT Infrastructure for The Education and Leisure
Directorate. The Council has recently been awarded pathfinder status for its work
with modernising local government. The Council is working very closely with
Microsoft and Cisco on the Education ICT Infrastructure project. The City of Salford
needs a recognised supplier that can meet the Council’s large volume requirements for
PCs, servers and Storage Area Networking equipment. The Council has already
heavily invested in NetIQ’s Appmanager for Windows NT\2000 monitoring and
reporting of hardware, operating system and services faults and capacity. The council
would like a supplier who’s equipment will integrate with this tool.
Data Backup Security Software and Security Area Network
Management
The City of Salford is looking for a supplier of Data Backup Security Software and
Security Area Network Management tools. The Council is currently implementing an
improved ICT Infrastructure to facilitate the inclusion of the schools and libraries onto
the Corporate Network and deliver its E.Government requirements. The Council
needs a supplier to work alongside the Council to deliver software and consultancy
services for this project and other smaller scale projects that the council will be
involved in. The Council has recently been awarded pathfinder status for its work
with modernising local government. The Council is working very closely with
Microsoft and Cisco on an Education ICT Infrastructure project. The City of Salford
needs a recognised supplier that can meet the Council’s large volume requirements,
which will include a lot of remote servers, for Data Backup Security Software and
Security Area Network Management tools. The Council has already invested in
Veritas products for Windows NT\2000 backups, however we are not committed to
Veritas and will consider other solutions. The Council would like to include the
security of its UNIX servers as part of the Data Backup solution in the future. The
Council is currently advertising for a supplier for Storage Area Networking products
alongside this advert.
Data, Video and Voice over IP Networking Equipment
The City of Salford is looking to establish a framework with suppliers of data, video
and Voice over IP Networking Equipment to facilitate the Council’s requirements for
the next 5 years. The Council needs a supplier to work alongside the Council to

small-scale projects that the council is currently and will be involved in. These

Microsoft and Cisco on the Education ICT Infrastructure project. The City of Salford
needs a recognised supplier that can meet the Council’s large volume requirements for
Data, video and Voice over IP networking equipment. The Council has already
heavily invested in a Cisco IGX based ATM core network to nodal sites with Catalyst
switches on the edge and on the campus at the Civic Centre which runs at 1Gbit
backbone. The suppliers must be confident that they can provide solutions that will
integrate with the existing equipment, extend the service into the schools and libraries
and support Video traffic and a VoIP system.
Uninterruptible Power Supply Systems
The City of Salford is looking for a supplier of Uninterruptible Power Supply
Systems. The Council is currently implementing an improved ICT Infrastructure to
facilitate the inclusion of the schools and libraries onto the Corporate Network and
deliver its E.Government requirements. The Council needs a supplier to work
alongside the Council to deliver UPS Systems for this project and other smaller scale
projects that the council will be involved in. The Council has recently been awarded
pathfinder status for its work with modernising local government. The Council is
working very closely with Microsoft and Cisco on an Education ICT Infrastructure
project. The City of Salford needs a recognised supplier that can deliver UPS
Systems ranging from small systems for one server to large 16KVA systems with
battery backup time ranging from 20 minutes to eight hours. The Council needs
systems that include IP based management that alert to a central point when there is a
problem and interface with the servers to shut them down automatically.
