Macramé Belt
Description: Campers will learn the art of macramé or using cords and tying
knots.
Goals: To create a belt using the macramé method.
Objectives:
1. Learn to tie basic macramé knots.
2. Learn to follow patterns and instructions
Materials:
 21 yards of cotton chord
 12 beads
 T-pins (or duct tape)
 Mounting board
 Ruler
 Pattern
 Scissors
Procedure:
1.
Cut 6 - 3 ½ yard long chords.
2.
Pin chords to the board, spacing them evenly.
3.
Number chords 1 through 6, from left to right.
4.
Using chords 2 through 5, tie a square knot.
5.
Use 2 knotting chords and 2 knot-bearing chords.
6.
Separate your chords into two groups, 1 through 3 and 4 through 6.
7.
Tie a square knot with each group.
8.
Using chords 2 through 5, tie two square knots.
9.
Repeat steps three and four 20 more times.
10. Tie one square knot using the groups of chords 1 through 3 and 4 through 6.
11. Tie a square knot using chords 2 through 5.
12. Measure down 13 inches.
13. Cut off.
14. Unpin the belt from the board.
15. Place a bead on the end of each chord.
16. Tie underneath so the bead won’t slide off, which will be your belt tassels.
