Objective culture
Could you tell us some important features of your culture?
Culture is changing day by days. There’s keep changing.
a. Where is your country? It’s in Europe.
Who are the people making up the population?
Indian, European, Chinese.
b. What is the staple food in your country?
Potato & Bread → Spaggatti
Do you have any special table manners?
Eating like gentleman or lady or people won’t want to
make friends with you.
What agricultural produce do you have in your country?
Meet, Milk, Weeds, Sheep, cow, pig and potato …
c. How is the weather like in your country?
Rainning and colder / winter usually very dry
d. What kinds of clothes do people wear to work or to school?
Suit, tie, shirt in pants ( work )
What do people wear at home?
Late will be punished in England ( student )
What do people wear to formal events? Suit
e. What is the most popular sport in your country?
Football, cricket, rugby
Do you play it? Yes, students have to play it in school.
f. Who are the most famous writers in your country?
Jamed Joyce, Yeats, G.B Shaw, Shelly, Rowlings
What stories have you read? Many kinds of books…

2. Regarding the items mentioned in question 1,
what differences do you find between your
culture and Taiwanese culture?
Big different about education between
British and Taiwanese.
In Taiwan, there are always multiple
choices questions and there are no second
answer, but in Briton, they always give
students spaces to speak out their opinion.

1. Could you tell us the subjective feature of your culture?
a. Time:
Is it important to be punctual? Yes !
Do people always arrive on time?
Of course not always, but it’s really important.
Is it ok to arrive late? No !
b. Invitation:
Is it normal to invite a friend to have dinner at home?
Yes, because it’s expensive to eat outside.
Or people meet in the public places, like restaurants or cafés?
Cafés or bars.
Do you need to bring something if you are invited?
Yes, it’s kind of good manner. ( wines, cookies… )
c. Greeting:
How do people greet each other when they meet?
M & F → kiss faces
Do you shake hands, bow, hug, or kiss? M & M → shake hands
What do you say to each other? Close friends → hugs
d. Directness:
Is it polite to be direct? No, not too much.
Or do people tend to be indirect? Yes, kind of …
e. Do people use body language a lot? Quite a bit.
Is it polite to touch someone while speaking?
It depends where you put your hands…
f. Are there any taboos foreigners must know before visiting your countries?
Always be polite, eating manners, always be in line .
What do you think are the underlying reasons of those taboos?
Can’t be too close to people when talking to people.

對這個訪談活動有何心得感想:
1.我覺得這個訪談活動有何優點?
從訪談中,更了解了英國的文化,也增加了我們自己的國際觀,
使自己能夠更加擁有國際素養,同時也可增加我們自己與國外
文 的接觸,順便訓練自己的膽量。
2.我學到什麼新的文化知識
就用餐禮儀方面,外國文化跟台灣文化是有些許的不同的,例
如外國文化吃東西時需非常注意吃的優雅不優雅,不然會不被
人接納,台灣這方面就沒有那麼要求了。
3.我學到什麼新的語言或單字? Punctual 準時的

對這個訪談活動有何心得感想:
4.我在和外籍學生中運用什麼溝通技巧來理解和表達?
沒有使用什麼比較特殊的溝通技巧純粹以聊天方式來做這問卷。
5.我覺得訪談活動有什麼缺點?
有些題目有些古怪,讓對方不知道怎麼回答,我們自己也看了
一下那些問題,也覺得很不知道為什麼要問,有些題目問的
有點太深入,並不太洽當。

6.我在尋找國際學生訪談的過程是否有任何困難?
還好,因為有這方面的資源,所以沒有太多的困難。
