Grace 4A360008 李亭慧 How does cultural differences influence the way you see thing? It was my first time watching this movie “Lost in translation”. It was a little hard for me to understand the real meaning and felt little boring on it. In the movie, Bob is a movie star who is old fashion and went to Tokyo to earn 2 million by taking advertising, but it is not successfully to him. Because the translation between Bob and the director, just like Mongolian and I in class, we have different language and English is not our first language. Sometimes we have trouble in our conversation and they may misunderstand the real meaning what I want to tell them. The interpret in the movie, she is unprofessional that she is convey not very well. So Bob just do an action in humorous way to achieve the film. Charlotte is a new marriage woman who just twenty years old went to Tokyo with her husband. Her husband is a photograph that he leaves Charlotte in the hotel alone. Bob and Charlotte, who go to the unfamiliar country and cannot easy to communicate with others in Japan, meet other and become good friend. No matter the age or the statue they are, they share all things what they face and talking the future, dream and marriage. I think in the foreign country that we meet the same person who is same with other. It will get more close the each other. I chose this topic because is close to us. Like Roumayne, she will share her opinion to the teacher but I cannot do it. When the teacher asking some question, I will think a lot but I won’t speak out loud. I am shy and I afraid to share my opinion that is wrong. But if you do not share the idea to others in Western, it may be strange and the teacher won’t give you high scores. Western families usually teach their children to be independent when they was young, not like some of Taiwanese families just teach children not to do this, not to do that. It is a little related to cultural difference. In other words, we have different background, different habits and different view, but we can live and learn new things together, it is really good, isn’t it? Cultural differences can be positive because we can know more about each other.
