Applications Support Specialist Job Description TITLE: Applications Support Specialist JOB CODE: 9835 EFFECTIVE DATE: FLSA STATUS: NE EEO6 CODE: 5 = Technical/Para Professional PURPOSE: Works with multiple IT teams and the university departments to develop, maintain, and enhance University applications. Responsible for gathering business requirements and the upgrade of, and on-going support for, software and applications. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Review, analyze, and modify systems including coding, testing, de-bugging, installing to support software applications. Define and analyze information technology needs and then modify existing software, systems, and/or processes to meet the user needs. Create technical specifications and detailed software design documentation based on business requirements. Ability to design, code, test and install complex computer programs based on technical specifications using Enterprise standard development tools. Interact with the user community to gather and document business requirements, conduct process analysis, and draft conceptual design. Perform data mapping, conversion testing, and end-user documentation. Assess the impact of application upgrades and provide proposals for applying them effectively. Works on multiple projects with competing deadlines requiring strong attention to detail. Work with users and other IT members on a routine basis to troubleshoot reported problems pertaining to application software. Identify the cause, design or develop an approach for resolution. Upon approval, implement the correction/customize software to meet user specific needs. Provide 2nd level support for application problems. Perform other duties as required. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General supervision from the Applications Development Manager SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: None REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Two+ years of university or college with coursework in computing , information systems or related field. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Six months experience with a proficient understanding of relational database, client-server concepts, and computer programming, understanding of all phases of the application development lifecycle, and a strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel). Certifications in supported technologies. Excellent organization, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication (verbal and written) skills. Ability to work well with people in all levels of the organization. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Use of standard office equipment, personal computer, and Microsoft office. Extremely accurate in all phases of work. General office conditions.
