Electrician I Purpose Purpose: To provide semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and service of electrical systems. Responsible for the performance of assigned electrical and related duties. Essential Functions Function 1: Assists journey-level electrician in accomplishing the following duties: run conduit, pull wire and install circuits for electrically driven units. 40 % Time Function 2: Assist with installs, inspects, tests, maintains and repairs a wide variety of electrical circuits, motors, generators, sterilizers, lighting ballast, lamps and various medical and scientific laboratory equipment. 50 % Time Function 3: Performs semi-skilled electrical work as may relate to air conditioning or refrigeration. Qualifications Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. One year documented experience working in electrical field with progressive responsibility toward journeyman level work. Be able to obtain Texas Apprentice License within one year of employment. Valid Texas driver's license required. Preferred Qualifications: Use of all hand tools common to the electrical trade and progressively capable of using meters and related equipment. Accuracy commensurate with progress. Working conditions are considered to be acceptable, but occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions, energized electrical equipment and high voltage equipment. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Safety precautions are extremely important around high voltage equipment. Special job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
