Library Assistant III
Purpose
Purpose:
Assists in stacks management and the supervision of student workers. Will split time between
two libraries, The Science and Engineering and Architecture and Fine Arts Library. Responsible
for maintaining customer oriented and sound shelving services.
Essential Functions
Function 1:
Perform shelving, shelf reading, shifting and inventory of the libraries and maintain statistics on
each area. Assists in the hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of student employees who
perform shelving, shelf reading, shifting, and associated tasks. Maintains signage of stacks and
monitors tidiness. Will share in the inventory of all the branches of the UTA Library.
35 % Time
Function 2:
Serves as backup for Reserves.
5 % Time
Function 3:
Book searches and missing in transit for our branches. Assists with searches for missing or lost
items. Responsible for the process of the new books for the new book display at the Science and
Engineering UTA library. Will pull and maintain the periodical collection at the Science and
Engineering and Architecture and Fine Arts Library.
25 % Time
Function 4:
Identifies materials in need of repair or conservation.

Function 5:
Coordinates with Resource Delivery manager for Graduate Retrieval at the Science and
Engineering and Architecture and Fine Arts Library.

Function 6:
Share in the circulation rotation. Must engender the values of community, learning, excellence,
innovation, service, transparency, collaboration and flexibility. May be required to work some
weeknight, weekend and holiday hours. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent. Required qualifications include three years related
experience, one year of which must be at least at the Library Assistant I level. Sixty credit hours
of college substitutes for one year of experience. A Bachelor?s degree substitutes for two years
of required experience. Related experience includes performing functions which involve data
interpretation, information provision, customer service, data input, problem resolution, and a
variety of complex clerical procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Good organizational and good interpersonal skills are desired. Demonstrated ability to work well
independently is desired as well as the ability to work in a team environment. Computing skills
preferably beyond core competencies. Problem resolution skills and a strong commitment to
customer service.
