Accountant I Job Description TITLE: Accountant I JOB CODE: 9162 EFFECTIVE DATE: FLSA STATUS: E EEO6 CODE: 3 = Professional/Non-faculty PURPOSE: To perform basic or routine accounting assignments involved in the preparation of financial statements and reports. Responsible for the assignments and operation of an accounting office and responsibilities for accounting records. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assembles data from book of original entry and central control records. Prepare financial statements and reports pertaining to departmental or university activities. Audits and processes cash receipts , purchasing and disbursement documents in accordance with appropriate rules and regulations. Reviews central accounts and fund groups for propriety of entries and investigates overdrafts. Reconciles bank statements. Performs related duties as required. Prepares or assists in the preparation of various financial reports including monthly and annual summary reports and government reports. Prepares or assists with billings to government on federal projects. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: General instructions except on the more complex assignments. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: May supervise the work clerical and accounting clerical personnel in accumulating data and making tabulations. REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in accounting. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: None. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Standard office machines, equipment capabilities and personal computer and CRT. Proficiency in the evaluations , observations, analysis and reporting of financial data.
