
To lead a major excursion you must have current CPR and WFA at the time of your trip (or AWFA for all backcountry
trips). If you do not have the required level of certification at the time you submit your proposal or it will expire before
the date of your trip, you will need to make arrangements to recertify in a timely manner.

Fly from either Boston or New York to Innsbruck, Austria. Board chartered bus at
airport to hotel in Neustift, Austria. We will have 13 exciting days in the beautiful Stubai
Alps, surrounded by magnificent alpine peaks and meadows. Each day an intermediate to
advanced intermediate hike will be offered. The first 3 days hikes for acclimatization at
lower levels, then using cable cars to start higher, at the slow "alpine guide's pace". We
will hike to 5-7 alpine huts for a superb lunch each day, and enjoy some of the most
beautiful views in Europe. All hikes are on trails well maintained by Austrian and
German hiking clubs. One day is an excursion by cable cars to the "Top of the Tyrol"
and Austria's highest restaurant. Tourist cards provide for 10 days unlimited
transportation in the Stubai valley and into Innsbruck. Two days to enjoy Innsbruck
(entrance fees are optional), sample itinerary is provided. Chartered bus return from hotel
to airport for return flights to USA. Leader and coleader will accompany participants
back to airport.
In Neustift, Austria we will be staying at the very pleasant 3 star Hotel Bellevue. Our
hosts are english speaking and arrange our tourist cards, taxis to one remote hut
trailhead. There will be no language barrier for participants. Each hotel guest room has
private bath/shower; hotel has 3 lounge areas, indoor sun room, gratis computer, outdoor
deck area and a large wellness area inside.
The Hotel Bellevue will provide a full buffet breakfast and 2 menu choices for the 4 star
dinners. One of our hosts is a chef par excellence. Lunches are not provided, but can be
obtained at the alpine huts or participants can buy food from local stores in Neustift.

The participants must be able to demonstrate that they can hike in the Alps. A guideline
for hiking abilities will be supplied with the prospectus so participants can rate
themselves. Leader/coleader will follow up with AMC local chapter contacts to see if
participants will be a good fit for this trip. Phone calls will be used if uncertain about
abilities and being a good group player.

Talks on Austrian conservation methods in the Alps while hiking, ie:timber conservation
and management, avalanche control, glacier protection to slow melting process.
Education on Austrian flowers, animals, trees, on altitude and acclimatization
procedures, hiking safety in the Alps and "alpine guide's hiking pace". The main
recreation will be hiking, Tyrolean Folk music and dancing. Optional sightseeing in
Innsbruck for 2 days, leaders will supply sample itinerary/sightseeing info. One of the
hosts is also a mountaineering guide and gives an excellent overview and history of the
area and his historic family (Hofer).

Trail conditions, river crossings, weather, wildlife (bears, snakes, etc.)
Slipping off trail, rock fall, exposure on cliffs, rain, and cold exposure.
Stay on marked trails, observe slopes and weather changes, instruct hikers on trail safety
and etiquette. Carry rain gear, extra layers, hats, gloves, gaiters, polypro and wool layers,
first aid kit. Careful instructions in advance before hiking about how to hike in the Alps:
stay to high side of trail when you encounter people, stay away from steep grass slopes,
and keep a safe interval between hikers.

Austria is a neutral country and safe. German language. Pick pockets.
Check State department advisories. Know some German, carry small dictionary and
phrase book. Warn participants in advance of thieves in airports and cities.

buses in Neustift.

Level of fitness, screening concerns, experience with equipment or activity
Intermediate to advanced hiking skills required of all participants. Health conditions will
dictate what level participant will be allowed to hike. Must be a group player and not an
individualist.
Careful screening: application response, phone calls, chapter feedback, recent excursions
(local and Adventure Travel), list of hikes done in past 2 years. Participants will need to
be up front and accurate with all health conditions and medications. Participant must be a
group player, if not they will put the groups safety in jeopardy and this would not be
acceptable.

Cable car travel to high altitudes.

acclimatize for the first 3 days.

Euro is used in Austria, have budgeted an exchange rate of $1.65 per euro due to current
vlatility of euro/dollar. Have also budgeted a contingency of 8% to offset increases in the
exchange rate.

Hotel Bellevue in Neustift will require a deposit of 50% by June 15th, 2014

If you cancel after being accepted for the trip, $50 is non-refundable. But if you cancel
after May 1st, 2014, minimally $200 is nonrefundable, if (and only if) another person
takes your place. We will establish a waiting list. Should another person replace you, you
will be charged only the $200 cancellation fee. However, your cancellation shall not
raise the cost of the trip to any of the participants or trip leaders. Thus if you cancel and
are not replaced, you will forfeit the $200 plus the per capita expenses already incurred
and any other unpaid expenses for which the trip cannot obtain a refund. You may forfeit
the entire trip fee. Flight tickets once purchased become your property and are generally
non-refundable. We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance. Information
on a company recommended by the AMC will be sent to you. Please note: The price of
the Adventure Travel trip is given in good faith based on current tariffs and rates and is
subject to change. Any tariff, exchange rate increases will be pased on to participants.
