Unit Plan
Unit Title: Foundations in Government Triumph of Parliament in England. A two week unit describing the struggles between Parliament and the King of
England in the 1600’s. Students will examine revolutionary changes in England that resulted in more power for Parliament. The ensuing conflicts shaped a new
kind of government in England. The unit concludes with The Glorious Revolution of England; and ultimately sets the stage for the Enlightenment Thinkers and the
basis for Revolution in Colonial America.
Essential Questions: Continuation of the essential question from previous unit: How much power should the government have? How did Democracy
emerge in England? And in the context of the English civil war: “Why would the wealthy English “commoners” try to prevent the less wealthy from having an
equal say in government?”
Standards: PA Core Standards, PA Academic Standards/Anchors (based on subject)
