Library Information Commons Student Authentication and Public Access to Davenport University Computers Starting in the fall of 2007, Davenport University will begin requiring that all users enter authentication credentials before accessing University computers. This requirement is being implemented in an effort to satisfy security audit requirements and create accountability within our network. Affected areas include: all classroom, student lounge, kiosk, and LInC computers that connect to the Davenport University trusted network. Students and alumni will log into computers using their SOS user names and passwords. Passwords can be managed by the students themselves or reset by their advisors in the event that they are lost or forgotten. Access to Davenport University computer resources will be granted to the public with the following requirements and restrictions: Must provide valid picture ID to verify identity. Must be at least 16 years old to use computers. Must agree to and abide by all Davenport University Acceptable Use policies for technology resources. Access is granted only to the person who has presented their ID and received a valid username and password. Allowing others to use these credentials will result in the revocation of all computer privileges for both parties. Subscription based databases are available to current students only. In the event there is a shortage of resources, current students will be given priority. Limits may be imposed on the number of hours a Guest User can utilize Davenport University computers in a single day. Limits may be imposed on the number of print copies the user is able to make without charge. Access privileges may be revoked at any time for any reason. The Process: 1. Applicant presents valid Drivers license or other picture ID to appropriate LInC staff. 2. LInC staff verifies identity of applicant. 3. Applicant signs Acceptable Use policy form for Guest users. This form is to be stored locally in a secure location. 4. LInC staff submits request to the Customer Support Center. 5. CSC creates a user account which will provide access to Davenport University computers. 6. Guest users must re-validate their information every 90 days. 10/9/07
