Job interview(工作面試)
Getting ready (正在準備)
Narrator: Sam has an interview tomorrow for a sales position. Today he is getting
ready. His older brother, Matt, is trying to help him.
Matt: I have a feeling you will get this job.
Sam: Thanks. But I'm not so sure. Interviews stress me out.
Matt: Just remember to be professional and polite. Oh, and don't forget to smile.
Sam: I'll do my best, but sometimes I have trouble being myself in stressful situations.
Matt: Have you updated your resume recently?
Sam: Yes... ah! I forgot to include my e-mail address.
Matt: You better double- and triple-check it. You don't want to have any embarrassing
typos on your resume. Otherwise, you might shoot yourself in the foot!
Sam: I'll be sure and do that. I also need to pick out the right suit, shirt, and tie for this
interview.
Matt: Definitely. Are you going to wear your three-piece suit?
Sam: I am interviewing for an entry-level sales position, so I'll wear my two-piece,
black suit.
Matt: Sounds good. Oh, do you have a reference letter?
Sam: Sort of. I prepared a list of all the people who can vouch for my experience and
good work ethic.
Matt: I'm included on your list of references, right? My praise of you could really
make a difference.
Sam: Sorry, you're not on it. I don't think using my brother as a reference would be
very convincing!
Arriving for the interview(到達面試地點)
Narrator: Sam has arrived at LiveTech for his job interview. As he comes in the door,
the receptionist greets him.
Receptionist: Welcome to LiveTech. May I help you?
Sam: Yes, I have an appointment to see Mrs. Becker, the personnel manager. My
name's Sam Williams.
Receptionist: Are you here for an interview?
Sam: Yes, I am.
Receptionist: Please take a seat and fill out this application form.
Sam: OK. Oh no, I forgot my pen. I hope I don't seem unprepared, but, uh, can I...
borrow a pen?
Receptionist: No problem. I happen to have an extra one you can use. Here you go.
Narrator: Later, a woman sits down next to Sam. Sam remember Matt’s advice)
Matt: Be aggressive. Be bold. Don't wait for them to come to you.
Narrator: Sam introduce himself.
Sam: Hello, Mrs. Becker. My name is Sam Williams, and I don't have any sales
experience, but I am the best man for the job, because I can sell anything to anyone!
Woman: That's great, but I'm Ms. Wallace, LiveTech's CFO -- not our personnel
manager!
Sam: Oops, I'm so sorry. I'm a bit anxious about my interview for a sales position here
at LiveTech.
Woman: That's all right. You certainly seem confident enough to be a good sales
representative.
Talking about yourself (談談有關你自己)
Narrator: Now, Sam is sitting across the desk from Mrs. Becker, the personnel
manager. Sam is still remembering his brother Matt's advice.
Becker: So, your resume says you've worked at a number of companies.
Sam: Yes, and in my last job, I worked for DigiSky, so I know a little bit about the
high-tech industry.
Becker: That's good. How are your computer skills?
Matt: Show them passion!
Sam: Excellent! I won the Gamer's Award, and nobody can beat me at Kung Fu
Battle...
Becker: I mean for the office.
Sam: Oh, uh, pretty good. I'm proficient in word processing, creating spreadsheets,
and setting up databases, and I have experience making Web pages.
Becker: Impressive. How would you describe yourself?
Sam: I'm hardworking and organized, and I work well with others.
Becker: Where do you picture yourself in five years?
Sam: I want to be in a senior sales position with a high-tech company.
Becker: And do you have any experience in sales?
Sam: Actually, I don't. But I believe my personality and ability to learn fast will
enable me to become a good sales rep.
Becker: I appreciate your honesty. It's really quite refreshing. Some interviewees tend
to exaggerate.
Sam: I prefer to be truthful. No one likes to be misled, including potential customers.
