PRACTICAL INFORMATION Before leaving Norway - When and how did you receive information from the exchange university? The International Office was very helpful; they provided information in advance about housing, courses and activities arranged by the student association for exchange students. - Did you encounter any difficulties? There were no difficulties Applying for a visa (if applicable) - How did you apply for your visa, what did it cost and did you have difficulties? As a Norwegian student you don’t need visa for the exchange semester. Travel - How did you travel to your destination? Travelling to Prague is easy, both Norwegian and SAS provides direct flights. My buddy met me at the airport, and we took buss and metro to get from the airport to the city center. Housing - Was housing provided by the university? If not, did you receive support from the school? Housing can be provided by the university, be aware that the standard is rather low and the dormitory is 20 minutes from school and 30 minutes from the city centre with tram. I choose to rent a flat in Lipanska, 5 minutes’ walk to campus and 5 minutes to city centre with tram. Costs - Approximately how much per month did you spend on rent, books, food, transportation, and other personal expenses? Rent: 2.500 NOK Books: I didn’t need any books for my courses. Food: For a lunch/dinner at the student canteen, approximately 20 NOK. Restaurant prices for lunch/dinner approximately 40-60 NOK. Transportation: You can purchase a 3-month student pass, which cost 600 NOK. Culture and language - Did you have any language problems with the faculty or other students? I had no language problems with the faculty or other students. However, people in Prague don’t speak well English. - How were the possibilities to experience the country and the culture? The buddy system arranged several trips to different places in Czech republic. II. ABOUT THE SCHOOL Please describe: - The school (location, size, study structure, special academic areas etc.) The school was divided into three parts, Paradise building, new Building and old building. The library is located in the old building, which is very small approximately study place for 300 students. Course registration - When and how did you register for courses? First I find my courses through their web site, where there is information about the course contain and the different valuation. - When did the add/drop period end? It is possible to add/drop in the first week of the semester. Academic calendar Arrival date: First day of the semester: Last day of classes: Examination period: 12.09. 16.09. 20.12. 16.12-20.12 Arrival - Describe the introduction week They have classes you can attend to learn about the Czech culture. They also arrange a weekend trip for the exchange students the first week. The International Office - As an exchange student, did you receive sufficient and relevant information? Yes, all the information is in English, and if there is any trouble the international office will assist you. Promoting BI and Norway - What kind of activities were you involved in to promote exchange to Norway at your exchange university? There were no particular events to promote BI during my semester. Social activities - How was the relationship with native students and that among exchange students? Very good, they are very helpful if you have any questions. - Are there any special activities, student organisations, and gatherings for exchange students? The buddy system arranged many social activities. Every Tuesday they arranged Nation2Nation parties, where the theme was around one or several nations. III. ACADEMICS In the classroom - Describe the teaching style (practical, theoretical, cases/lectures, formal/informal etc.) The teaching style is more practical, some of the classes had several cases. - How is the level and workload compared to that at BI? The workload is less then BI. Course materials - Describe the course materials used (books/literature, online articles, Powerpoint, level of course material etc). For all my classes the materials was PowerPoint. Exams - Was the exam based on the course materials or on the lectures? Course materials. - How was the course evaluated (include all that apply)?
