I)
Assessment
A) QEP Impact Report
1) Ashley and Janice met on 10/30/12 to discuss report.
2) Second draft was presented/discussed at QEC Meeting 11/2/12
3) Meeting on Wednesday, November 7 to discuss the status of the QEP
Impact Report, and ensure that necessary resources are allocated.
4) Draft for external reviewers due in Content Management System (CMS)
by November 16.
B) Assessment Rubric for Critical Thinking (ARC)
1) ARC Scoring workshop
(a) Friday, November 9, 2012, 8:00-5:00 p.m., EpiCenter - 1-324
(b) 14 registrants: Floyd Butz, Teri Trede, Sandra Beck, Kirsten

(c) Ashley will go through CTAP papers, determine numbers, and will
let Janice know how many and which to print from Eric Tucker’s.

1) Great Debate 2012
(a) Ashley has compiled notes, and will write a report from the
audience poll and student survey.
2) Opportunities to collect data
(a) “What was I thinking?” weekly workshop series September 4
through November 6, Seminole Campus. Ashley attended
Sheree’s presentation at Fall CTI.
(b) Ethics Institute is sponsoring “Ethical Implications of Free Speech
in the World of Social Media.” Ashley created a survey in
ANGEL for students to identify how well they were able to apply
critical thinking skills, etc.
(c) Other Ideas
(i) Gibbs Political Science Club, and Eatz, the SPC Culinary
Club downtown – Terrance Aschenge
(ii) SGA Executive Board – Stephanie Henningsen
(iii) Sustainability Net Impact Club – Lynn Grinnell
Professional Development
A) Quality Enhancement Committee (QEC)
1) Met 11/2/12 to review QEP Impact Report
2) The QEC will probably not meet in the spring, pending external reviewers
feedback on the QEP Impact Report.
B) Critical Thinking Institutes

(a) Held 10/5/12

(c) Bridgette Willis from Professional Development sent message
about obtaining Certificates of Attendance – Janice will discuss
communication improvements, including a clearer subject
heading.

2) Spring Critical Thinking Institute/Narrowing the Gulf

(i) Ashley suggested Saundra Yancy McGuire from Louisiana
State University, presenter from the SACS Summer
Institute, on topic of metacognition and out of class
support.
(ii) Janice will speak with Li-Lee Tunceren for a
recommendation.

2) CETL Critical Thinking Grant
(a) 2 applications; 1 awarded:
(b) Lynn Grinnell, Immersive Experiential Learning in the
Sustainability Lab Abstract: This project for the College of
Business Sustainability Lab will provide a hands-on, immersive
experience in biofuels production to give students opportunities
to think critically using data before making business decisions.
The project will entail setting up a small, hydroponically-grown
biofuels plant in a controlled environment. After extracting the
oil from the plant seeds, students will use the science lab on the
Tarpon Springs campus to create biofuels out of the oils. A
capstone student and Dr. Grinnell will be developing lesson plans
and workshops on biofuels operations for two Sustainability
Management courses.
(c) CETL will include when announcing other CETL grants winners.

1) WITS Learning Event “Developing Critical Thinking Activities Using
Reusable Learning Objects” was held 10/5/12

C) Instructional Portfolios
1) Humanities, Public Safety, HIM, Math, Business, and Computer/Info Tech
portfolios are complete. Janice has spoken with Faculty Champions for
Sign Language and Natural Science, and will continue to follow-up
with Social & Behavioral Science.
2) Epilogue (Reflection) Proposal; Janice will check on stipend for faculty
(a) In reviewing your original instructional portfolio, how have you
modified or improved your initial method(s) for cultivating
critical thinking in your students?
(b) What were some obstacles or challenges, and how did you (do you
plan to) overcome them?
(c) Summarize what you are doing to help your students be better
thinkers.
(d) Describe how you know what you’re doing is working. How are
you assessing your students’ critical thinking? Provide data,
examples, samples, etc.
(e) What is your action plan, moving forward, particularly how to
improve methods and also to promote best practice among your
colleagues?
