Troposphere
Layer closest to the Earth.
Where all weather occurs
The higher you go in the
Troposphere the colder it
gets.
The only layer of the
atmosphere where life is
possible.
Extends 5-10 miles up from
the Earth’s surface.
Second layer of the
atmosphere.
Stratosphere
Extends from 10-30 miles
above the Earth’s surface.
Temperatures remain fairly
constant.
Very calm.....NO
WEATHER!
Special form of oxygenOZONE, which protects us
from harmful UV rays.
Planes fly here, birds do
Ionosphere
Charged particles, called
IONS, are found in this
layer.
Radio waves are sent
from Earth and reflected
back by this layer with
satellites.
It is very cold (-171F).
