 Lava flows gently to the surface
 Lava spreads out and forms a large
mountain
 Slopes of the mountain are gentle

Cinder Cone:
 Forms during an explosive eruption
 Mountains have steep sides and
narrow bases
 Lava, ash, boulders, dust, and gases
are blown high into the air
3. Composite Cone:
 Forms during an explosive and quiet
explosion
 Mountain has very high cone
 Cone is wide with steep sides
 Cone is made up of layers of lava +
ash, dust, and rock particles
