I am pleased to extend this invitation as Visiting Scholar in the Department of ______at the University of
New Hampshire, Durham, NH, effective _______ to ________.
This job offer and start date are contingent upon successful completion of the background check
process. You will receive an email from the background check vendor, HireRight, with instructions to
complete the background check process. Please respond to this request at your absolute earliest as the
background check can take up to two weeks to process. If you can provide verification of a background
check already completed by your institution, please notify me and forward the verification to Mariah
Bellington, Human Resources, with a copy of this letter so that we will not require you to go through
HireRight.
The UNH Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) can assist you with the necessary visa

As discussed, you will not be eligible for salary or benefits with this appointment. The Department of
will provide office space and/or laboratory space, library access, research resources and email access.
You will remain on the support by the ________Program and will not be identified as an employee of
UNH. UNH will not pay your salary and you will not be entitled to UNH benefits, including but not
limited to any worker’s compensation or unemployment compensation through UNH. UNH shall not be
liable for any claim arising out of your actions or failure to act. You shall not be liable for any claim
arising out of any action or failure to act by UNH, its employees, or agents.
The university is committed to building and preserving a community in which all its members have full

violence and sexual harassment. As part of your appointment you are required to complete an online
interactive training entitled, Preventing Unlawful Harassment which provides important information
about expectations of all employees in preventing harassment, steps you must take if you witness or
become aware of these behaviors and resources available in supporting those impacted. Shortly after
your UNH email account is activated you will receive an invitation with a link to the training with FROM:
USNH Online Training in the header. Please plan to complete the training within 30 days of notification.

Except as modified by this letter, the remaining terms and conditions of your appointment will be
governed by the applicable University System and UNH policies. Both parties reserve the right to
terminate this agreement for reasonable cause or if it is determined the objectives of the appointment
cannot be accomplished. Any party wishing to terminate this appointment must notify the other party in
writing thirty (30) days in advance and arrange for a mutual settlement of expenses incurred.
In particular, I bring to your attention our policies regarding research integrity, safety, and
