For 4th grade, the standard for fact fluency in the Biloxi Public School District is 15 correct facts per minute when the assessment is in written form. Facts should be taught in an interrelated way which emphasizes the connection between multiplication and division. Because division facts are more difficult for students to master, teachers should not wait until students master multiplication facts before beginning to work on division facts. Students will automatize multiplication and division facts 0-12. Each test will be timed. The results are interpreted as follows: Number of Multiplication Facts 0 12 Correct in 4 minutes 60 or more 50 - 59 40 - 49 39 or less Number of Division Facts 0 – 12 Correct in 4 minutes 60 or more 50 - 59 40 – 49 39 or less Number of Multiplication/Division 0 - 12 Facts Correct in 3 minutes 45 or more 37 – 44 29 - 36 28 or less 1st and 2nd Nine Weeks Rubric Exceeds Standard Satisfactory Needs Improvement Unsatisfactory 3rd Nine Weeks 4 3 2 1 Exceeds Standard Satisfactory Needs Improvement Unsatisfactory 4th Nine Weeks 4 3 2 1 Exceeds Standard Satisfactory Needs Improvement Unsatisfactory 4 3 2 1 4.NBT.4 Fluently add and subtract within 1,000,000 using the standard algorithm. Students should be flexible in their number sense and be able to apply their knowledge to mathematical problems and situations. Students should have a strong understanding of multiplying a two-digit number by a two digit number through partial products, area models, and the standard algorithm. Students should have a strong understanding of the concept of division and be able to divide fourdigit dividends by one digit divisors using area models, partial quotients, and the standard algorithm. Students should have a strong understanding of the relationship between addition and subtraction, multiplication and division.
