Students should come to 5th grade with a great foundation of the concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. 5th Graders will be expected to fluently multiply multi-digit numbers (2X2, 3X2, 4X2, and 3X3) (5.NBT.5) and fluently divide with two digit divisors. (5.NBT.6) Each test will be given as a timed test. The results are interpreted as follows: Multi-Digit Multiplication 2X2 (4) , 3X2 (4) 7 – 8 Correct 5 – 6 Correct 3 – 4 Correct 2 or less Correct Multi-Digit Multiplication 2X2 (1), 3X2 (1), 4X2 (4), and (4 digit dividend divided by a 2 digit divisor) with or without fractional remainders (2) 7 – 8 Correct 5 – 6 Correct 3 – 4 Correct 2 or less Correct Multi-Digit Multiplication 2 X 2 (1), 3 X 2 (1), 4 X 2 (1), and 3 X 3 (1), and (4 digit dividend divided by a 2 digit divisor) with or without fractional remainders (4) 7 – 8 Correct 5 – 6 Correct 3 – 4 Correct 2 or less Multi-Digit Multiplication 4 x 2 (4) and (4 digit dividend divided by a 2 digit divisor) with or without fractional remainders (4) 7 – 8 Correct 5 - 6 Correct 3 – 4 Correct 2 or less 1st nine weeks 8 problems in 16 minutes Exceeds Standards Satisfactory Needs Improvement Unsatisfactory nd 2 nine weeks 8 problems in 16 minutes Rubric Exceeds Standards Satisfactory Needs Improvement Unsatisfactory rd 3 nine weeks 8 problems in 16 minutes 4 3 2 1 Exceeds Standard Satisfactory Needs Improvement Unsatisfactory th 4 nine weeks 8 problems in 20 minutes 4 3 2 1 Exceeds Standard Satisfactory Needs Improvement Unsatisfactory 4 3 2 1 4 3 2 1 *We want students entering the 6th grade to have fluency of the 4 operations (+, -, X, and ÷) including fractions and decimals.* Students should be flexible in their number sense and be able to apply their knowledge to mathematical problems and situations.
