ENGL&151/152/153 – Creative Writing (Online) Writing Exercise #1 This writing exercise has two parts. Please complete this exercise only after reading the Week 1 chapters in Burroway as well as the Companion Notes. Use this form to complete both parts of the exercise and then submit it using the drop box in the Week 1 Module. Part 1: Write a paragraph (about 125 words, which is roughly half a double-spaced page) that evokes all five senses. Remember, individual details can evoke more than one sense! Part 2: Using one of the following two first lines, finish the sentence and then write 3-5 more sentences that continue the scene. The key here is to introduce several pieces of significant inventory. I have included a few sample sentences to give you an idea of what inventory looks like in fiction. The house we lived in… or She got out of the car… Sample: She got out of the car and tossed an apple core at the young valet. He let it fall at his feet, then kicked it with a glistening wingtip. He unholstered his walkie-talkie and proceeded to speak garbled code into the device. The woman, watching him, removed a stapler from a similar holster on her belt and began waving it at the valet.
