Peer Review ENGL102 - Analysis Reviewer:___________________________________________________ FOR THE WRITER: Explain what you are trying to DO in the essay and WHY. Think in terms of purpose: what are you trying to say (substantive), what effect do you want to have (affective), and how do you want to be perceived (ethical). FOR THE REVIEWER: Tell t he writer what you see as the central claims, point out areas that lack clarity, and ask questions to help them refine their thinking. What is the thesis? Is it clear, non-obvious, and arguable? Explain why it is or is not working. Offer potential additions if it needs to be more arguable or specific. What are the main points that the writer addresses in the essay? Are there logical connections between them? What are some strengths of this essay? Areas for improvement? Are there ways to look at the texts they haven’t considered? Pose at least two questions to the writer. Missed Opportunities: What other ideas, quotes, or references might the writer incorporate into their essay? Where have they missed a rebuttal or alternate interpretation that should be addressed? Are there additional questions that the essay brings up that need to be addressed, or implications that should be discussed?
