LSN 6 LNHO 4A-1 Learning North: Critique and Reflection This week, your job is to go to the media center, record a rehearsal of your presentation, and watch your presentation. Watching yourself (and your partner) on video is an excellent way to improve your English. However, simply watching in a passive manner isn’t enough to help you improve. You need to actively watch yourself and decide what you do well and what you need to improve. You also need to think about what you did to prepare, how you performed, and what you can do to improve your performance. Two activities that can help you help yourself are critique and reflection. When you critique yourself (or others), you try to look fairly and objectively at your performance. You examine your performance from different angles so that you can see where you did well and where you need to improve. For this project, you will watch presentation as many times as you need to so that you can complete the self-critique form. This form gives you two different “angles” to consider: your speaking and your body language/gestures. The form will be due with your reflection and your DVD in class on Monday, May 3. When you write a reflection, you think about all the steps you went through in order to complete the assignment. For this project, you will follow the suggested outline and write a short essay that reflects on the process of learning about the media center, going for your appointment, making your DVD, watching yourself, and deciding which elements to work on for your presentation. Reflection is valuable because it helps you understand yourself and your learning process on a deeper level of thinking.
