Introduction to Finite Element Analysis
100 word Term Project Statement
For the introduction to finite element analysis term project I will focus on a solid mechanics problem.
Specifically the deflection and stress of a simply supported plate under a uniform pressure load and a
point load at its center will be investigated. The stress and deflection will be computed using finite
element software such as Ansys, Comsol, and/or Abaqus. These approximations will be then compared
against the exact solution computed in Maple. A percent difference will be computed between the exact
and approximate solutions. Lastly a mesh size will be suggested for each load case such that the
difference to the exact solution is minimized.
