Vista Murrieta High School Mr. Ramer-W121 2012-2013 School Year Welcome to the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) class. In order to help you develop the necessary skills to pass the CAHSEE, students in this course will focus on writing, vocabulary, usage, grammar, listening, reading, analyzing and thinking. Students will also complete CAHSEE test prep on a regular basis, in preparation for the California High School Exit Exam. Student assessment and progress will be measured in terms of tests, quizzes, essays, journals, class work, presentations and homework. CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS AND PROCEDURES You are now juniors and seniors in high school. As young adults, you are well aware of what is appropriate and acceptable behavior. Please adhere to the following guidelines as you enter room W121: a. Be in your seat and ready to learn when the tardy bell rings. b. Arrive to class on time, prepared with a good attitude, required materials and completed homework. c. Deposit drinks (except water), gum, candy and food in a trashcan before entering the class. d. Remove your hat once you’re in the classroom. e. Turn off your cell phone, IPod, Walkman, etc. These items are not to be used during class. Per school policy, these items will be taken away and turned into the security office. STUDENT MATERIALS Please come to class prepared on a daily basis. The following items are suggested to help you organize your assignments and notes and to help your participation in class: a. b. c. a three-ring folder with lined paper, divided into six sections blue or black ballpoint pens one or two highlighter pens STUDENT NOTEBOOK You may want to have a separate notebook for your American Themes in Literature class. LATE WORK Late work is NOT accepted. It is your responsibility to complete your assignments and to turn them in on time. If you are absent, you must turn your work in on your first day back to class. Your absence must be EXCUSED by the time your return to class. Parents/guardians should call an attendance clerk to clear your absence by your first day back to class. If the absence is unexcused, the assignment will not be accepted. Unexcused absences will result in zero points for any missed assignments, activities, quizzes, presentations and projects. Students who are suspended or truant from class will receive a “0” for all missed assignments. STUDY BUDDY Write the names and telephone numbers of two students sitting next to you. If you are absent, you can find out what your missed. When you’re absent, you fall behind. As young adults, you are responsible to keep up with the work. All assignments will be given a point value. Your earned points will be divided by the total points possible to figure your grade average.
