Images of light and dark, summer and winter, day and night are examples of motifs Personification – giving a non-human object human qualities or abilities. “The daffodils danced in the breeze” is personification since flowers have no legs. Simile – a comparison of two unlike things using “like” or “as” Symbols – a physical object which represents a quality or idea Synecdoche – using a part to represent the whole. Calling your car “wheels”, your clothes “threads” are synecdoches.
