Then, they use it in a sentence and highlight the vocabulary word again. 1. geography – the study of Earth and the ways people use it We study geography in school. 2. landform – the shapes that are on the earth A hill is an example of a landform. 3. mountain – is the highest kind of landform We visited the mountains on our vacation. 4. plain – is a large, mostly flat, area of land My grandmother lives near the plains of West Texas. 5. valley – low area of land The valley had a river running through it. 6. island – is land that is surrounded by water Hawaii is an island. 7. peninsula – land that is almost surrounded by water We walked out on the peninsula and saw lots of water. 8. ocean – huge body of water I went swimming in the ocean. 9. river – a stream of fresh water The river has fish in it. 10. lake – large body of water surrounded by land We have a cabin at Possum Kingdom Lake.
