Ancient Greece Report
Due date: Feb. 8th 2012
Directions: Choose one of the Greek Gods/Goddesses/Heroes from the back of this
handout. Please select your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices as each student will do a different
person. You will create a report that has four parts.
-Written report: Write a 5 paragraph essay that includes the name of your person,
birthplace, and any family members. The main portion of your report should focus on the
reason that person is important. How did he/she become a God/Goddess or hero? What is
the basic story behind this person? What is he/she a God/Goddess of? What is the
significance for humans when the God/Goddesses is angered? Include any other
additional information to make your report interesting. Use paragraphs to organize your
report. The written report will be the center of your shutter fold book. 100 points
-Poem: Write an 8 line rhyming poem or an acrostic poem about your person. If you
choose an acrostic poem, it should contain detail and cannot be just 1-2 words per line.
The poem will be placed on the left side of your shutterfold book.20 points
-10 fast facts: Find 10 interesting facts about your person. This may include information
from your written report. The facts will be organized in a flip chart. It will be place on the
right side of the shutterfold book.20 points
-“Eggceptional” portrait: Create an egg-shaped portrait of your person’s face and add a
body. Be creative with the material you choose to illustrate your person. 30 points
The report, poem, and fast facts will be assembled in class in a shutter fold book. The
shutterfold book must contain a title and your name on the front cover (10 points). An
example will be shown in class. Students will also give a 3-5 minute presentation about
their person The presentation will be worth 20 points, for a total of 200 points for the
entire project.
Students may need to complete research at home. The Internet (with adult supervision),
encyclopedias and informational books are all great sources to use. This is a great
opportunity for students to visit the public library to find information, as the school
library will not have enough books for everyone to use at the same time.
Late assignments will be docked one letter grade per day late. After 3 late days, students
must turn in whatever work is complete to be graded.

Atlas - The Primordial Titan who carried the world on his back.
Atropos - 1 of the Fates, cut the thread of life and chose how a person would die
Bia - The goddess of force.
Boreas - The North Wind. One of the Anemoi (wind gods).
Calliope - One of the Muses. Represented epic poetry.
Calypso - The sea nymph who held Odysseus prisoner for seven years.
Cerus - The wild bull tamed by Persephone, made into the Taurus constellation.
Ceto - a sea monster goddess who was also the mother of other sea monsters.
Chaos -The nothingness that all else sprung from.
Charon -The Ferryman of Hades. had to be paid to help one cross the river Styx.
Chronos - God of time.
Circe - A goddess who transformed her enemies into beasts.
Clotho - One of the Fates - Spun the thread of life onto her spindle.
Cronus - God of agriculture, father of the Titans.
Demeter - of the harvest.
Dionysus - God of wine and pleasure.
Electra - One of the seven Pleiades.
Elpis - The spirit of Hope.
Gaia - Goddess of the Earth, also known as Mother Earth.
Hades - God of the Dead, King of the Underworld.
Hecate - Goddess of magic, witchcraft, ghosts, and the undead.
Helios -God of the Sun.
Hephaestus - God of fire and blacksmithing who created weapons for the gods.
Hera - Goddess of goddesses, women, and marriage and wife of Zeus.
Heracles – (Hercules) An immortal hero, the strongest man on Earth.
Hermes - God of commerce and travel, and messenger of the gods.
Hestia - Greek goddess of the home and fertility.
Iris - Goddess of rainbows.
Kratos - A god of strength and power.
Mania - Goddess of insanity and the dead.
Morpheus - God of dreams and sleep.
Nereus - Titan God who Fathered the Nereids. God of the Sea before Poseidon.
Pan - God of woods, fields, and flocks. Also a Satyr.
Peitha - Goddess of persuasion.
Persephone - Goddess of the Spring who lives off-season in the Underworld.
Poseidon - God of the sea and earthquakes.
Rhea -Goddess of nature.
Selene - Goddess of the Moon and the 'mother' of vampires.
Tartarus - of the depths of the Underworld, and the father of Typhon.
Thanatos - God of death.
Triton -Trumpeter of the sea and messenger of the deep.
Typhon - God of monsters, storms, and volcanoes.
Uranus - God of the sky and the heavens. Father of the Titans.
Zeus - of the Olympic gods, and god of lightning, thunder, and the heavens.
