made. Stacy Holman, an Ob/Gyn staff member, is the new faculty advisor, and she will
be present at the next meeting.

announcement will be sent out prior to the event.
d. Ryan Vega (for Lisa Dang – Social VP)
i. Next SGA social event will be the Spring semester party.
e. Jay Huber – Student Health VP
i. Additions to Student Health Plan
1. Dental/vision/hearing/ option is being worked on to be offered to students
2. Currently, dependents of students are not offered health insurance. Jay is working on a
solution for students to be able to indicate to the school that they wish to have their
dependents covered through LSU Student Health Plan.
ii. H1N1 Update
1. LSUHSC has installed Purell® Alcohol based hand sanitizer systems around campus.
2. The cafeteria has begun supplying individual plastic utensils. If a meal is not purchased,
the utensils are $0.33. This new cost was the only way to successfully implement the
new utensils as well as recover the cafeteria’s losses.
iii. Jay will be sitting on the committee that governs the cafeteria and school sanitation.
f. Rachel Pastorek (for Jamie O’Neal – Treasurer)
i. SGA approved the purchase of a new microwave for the student lounge to replace the old one.
g. Catherine McGee – Secretary
i. No new updates
h. Kevin Gipson – Technology Chair
i. The Technology fee committee met on Friday, September 25th. A number of items were
discussed, and here are some highlights: (official minutes attached to the SGA minutes email)
1. The committee provisionally approved a request by the Aesculapian Society to fund the
purchase of a scanner and specialized mark recognition software which would permit
the automated tallying of course survey data.
2. The committee voted on and unanimously approved the purchase of [8] remote
controls to operate the projectors in the conference rooms of the Student Learning
Center.
3. The committee provisionally approved the purchase of security software which will
allow terminals in the student computer lab to log-out of a student’s account after a
period of inactivity. Currently, terminals do not log out, and so a student who neglects
to log-off of their account prior to leaving the lab is at risk for having others use their
email account.
a. All students are reminded to log-out of all terminals and to lock all laptops
before leaving them unattended for any length of time.
4. The committee provisionally approved the acquisition of a color printer for the student
computer lab.
5. The committee provisionally approved deployment of proximity card-enabled locks for
the student lounge, student computer lab, and student activities room.
ii. Preliminary research towards an improved SGA website is ongoing.
1. WordPress, Moodle, and Content Management platforms are all being considered to
replace the current HTML-based system

1. Please read as it will be voted on at the next SGA meeting

L1’s have signed up so email Tu.lsu.paint.gmail.com and sogden@lsuhsc.edu if
interested.
iii. Ping Pong Tournament
1. Games will begin Oct 5th on the 2nd floor of the Residence Hall. Games should last 30
minutes and are held every weekday afternoon. Email cgiffi@lsuhsc.edu if interested.
iv. The Residence Hall also has a pool table so a pool tournament may be in the works.
v. Regarding a soccer league, we will wait until the spring semester to begin. If interested in soccer
now, the Riverside Indoor Soccer league will begin soon.

i. Seniors are in Block 4 of their rotations and they need to get ERAS certification.
k. Jimmy White – L3 President
i. The L3’s finished their first 12 week block and have just begun their 2nd block.
ii. Would like to create an updated survey of the L3s to help better prepare the L2s for Step 1.
l. Danny Eads – L2 President
i. Congrats to L1s for finishing their first round of exams. The grades are still pending. They are
moving on to Head and Neck in Block 2.
ii. Dean’s Meeting Update
1. Student Learning Center on the 6th floor of the Lion’s Building is open 24/7 with regards
to the conference rooms. Please keep it clean! Dr. Nelson wants this to be an open and
friendly campus, but if students are not responsible for the maintenance of the
conference rooms and other areas in the Learning Center privileges will be revoked.
iii. L2s are 4 weeks away from their 2nd set of exams.
iv. Looking forward to working with the new L1 class officers.
III. Student Affairs
a. Dr. Delcarpio
i. Kevin Gipson and Technology committee have been actively involved in improving student
technology and will continue to update school systems:
1. Improving clerkships rotations for L3s and L4s. Would like to upgrade the process of
rotation selection and make it electronic which can be backed up on servers.
a. Rotation distribution for L3s is very dated and L4 rotations are disorganized
2. Tech group will begin reviewing software to implement it for student rotation selection
which will result in independence of any one individual to determine students’
rotations.
ii. Student Learning Center:
1. Please keep it clean! If it is found to be untidy, student privileges will be gone.
2. The furniture in the common area in the library has been damaged. There is video
surveillance and this person will be caught and penalized.
iii. L2 students:
1. L2 students have been posting faculty power point presentations on public websites
under an anonymous name. This has led to a large investigation due to the copyrighted
material. Please be careful when posting public information.
2. Two organizations have talked to the L2’s about Step 1 preparation. Dr. D sent out a
survey to the L3 students (70 replied). Overall results: Strong students will do well on
the test with self study; Weaker students should look into an organized program (will
not endorse any one group).
iv. Student organizations:
1. Many have turned in the appropriate applications for Student Interest Group approval.
a. Some groups will need to redo the application and turn in the documents
electronically - submitted via pdf file. Dr D will contact the appropriate
organizations.
b. Honor Societies (i.e. AOA) do not require an application because it is an already
recognized organization.
c. Student Interest Groups and Student Social Organizations should turn in an
approval application.
v. AOA update:
1. 34 students were eligible for AOA but only 20 were accepted – the other 14 seniors will
be recognized in their Dean’s Letter. AOA has made some changes in selection process
and these changes will be brought forward to the students.
vi. L4 students:
1. Last date for Medical Student Performance Evaluation is Oct 14th.
2. Personal Statements need to be completed.
vii. Any student who fails a subject/exam cannot run or hold an office.
viii. Paintball Challenge – Dr. Cohn (at Tulane) has challenged Dr. D to the Oct 3rd match but Dr. D
must take a rain check. A re-challenge match will be held with LSU students. Jason will update
us as plans develop.
IV.

VII.
b. Dr. Lopez
i. The mass seasonal flu immunization on campus last week was cancelled due to backorder. A
shipment will be arriving soon to UH and the LSU Healthcare Network.
1. There was poor communication between the administration and students that the
seasonal shots were not going to be available. This will not happen again.
2. Please get the shot now (if able) or once it becomes available through LSUHSC.
ii. Pandemic Influenza Planning Committee continues to meet once a week.
1. H1N1 immunization will be available soon. We are high priority to receive this vaccine.
Good news – the vaccine is only one shot instead of two as initially thought.
2. LSUHSC is aiming to be a distribution center.
3. Because there may not be much delay between seasonal and H1N1 vaccines, you can
get them at the same time but in different areas.
a. It is a professional responsibility to get both the seasonal and H1N1 vaccines.
4. The policy is the same – if you have a flu-like illness stay home for 7 days and until your
symptoms resolve for >24 hrs. Last week was the only week no one went home with
influenza.
iii. Med malpractice from LAMMICO (medical malpractice insurance provider) will now increase per
incidence and aggregate insurance to students. LAMMICO will charge students $180.00 for a 1
month rotation with a 3 million dollar aggregate coverage.
1. In the past this has inhibited students from going to certain rotations out of state. Now
students will be covered all across the US during away rotations.
Do-Quyen Pham - APAMSA
a. Mr. MD will be held Friday Oct 2nd at 7pm. Tickets are on sale.
Christian Hernandez – Inaugural Camp Tiger Golf Tournament on October 17th (LSU by weekend) at North
Course at City Park. Registration is open to students, family, and friends. Please go to
http://www.lsuhsc.edu/no/organizations/camptiger/golf.asp to download the registration. Registration fee
is $50 and includes entry into the tournament, green fees, golf cart fee, and free beer and food (catered by
Olive Garden) at the award ceremony immediately after the tournament. Contact Matt Giglia
(mgigli@lsuhsc.edu) or Christian Hernandez (chern2@lsuhsc.edu) with any questions.

a. Applications for new members will be sent out to L1s and L2s on Wednesday. Deadline is Oct 9th at noon
and interviews will be Oct 14th and 15th.
