metaphor – n., a figure of speech that suggests a non-literal similarity.
rhyme – n., correspondence in the final sounds of two or more lines.
foreshadowing – n., the act of providing vague advance indications.
free verse – n., poetry that does not rhyme or have a regular meter.
irony – n., incongruity between what might be expected and what occurs.
onomatopoeia– n. using words that imitate the sound they denote.
stanza – n., a fixed number of lines of verse forming a unit of a poem.
Homework due Friday: Look up each word in the
dictionary or etymonline. Use root words! Do not
capitalize the word unless it’s a proper noun. Spelling
will count on the test. Big time.
