PERSUASIVE PRESENTATION The objectives of this assignment: 1) To persuade us with credible information and enlighten and inform the class on a specific topic. 2) To make the presentation engaging. 3) To time your presentation well. 1) You will need to persuade and inform us, so select material that will relate well to this audience. How can you best be persuasive and credible? How useful and memorable will the information be to us? Can you provide us with concrete and practical examples? How will you help us to remember the key points? Is there a narrative, anecdotes, or something to help convey information? Is the information organized in a chronological, problemsolution or some other clear, logical order? How will you make us believe you and agree with you? 2) Since you will be giving the presentation (another of many) after everyone has likely had a full day at work, you will need to engage us. What will you do to grab our attention and then hold our attention? What tools can you use to make the presentation more dynamic, unique or interesting? Please be imaginative. If you come up with creative, even unorthodox ideas, it is then always easier to dress them down and “go conservative“ if you find your audience is not open to unconventional form of delivery, but it is nearly impossible to improvisationally jazz-up a standard, uninspiring presentation. 3) You should control the time it takes you to deliver your presentation. I am open to negotiations on the time that you need, but once we agree on the time, you need to observe that limitation. I would suggest selecting one or two areas where you can either add or cut your material, based on your remaining time. Any interactive parts of your presentation, audience participation or questions are not counted in your scheduled time. Content is most important, but as majority of communication is non-verbal, delivery style can easily overshadow the content. You are not testifying in court – don’t try to use word for word what you prepared, and certainly don’t “read” your presentation. Have a good introduction that will get your audience’s attention and finish with a good conclusion. Have fun with it- it always shows and makes it a much better presentation. 7/11/16
