


School policy is followed.
Absences: Excused absences, as well as unexcused absences, count toward the limit
of 9 absences per semester, If you have special circumstances, you may appeal
absences before the end of the semester.
Tardies: You need to be in the classroom before the tardy bell rings to avoid being
sent to sweep.
Hall Passes: You must have a pass to leave class. Passes are given for urgent
situations only.
Class Dismissal: You are dismissed by the teacher and not the bell. Please remain
at your desk and be respectful by not packing up before class is over.
Homework

Homework consists of weekly vocabulary and any work unfinished in class.
Makeup Work

YOU are responsible for obtaining and completing work you miss due to absence.
Makeup work is allowed only for excused absences. You have ONE WEEK after
your last absent day to make up all work. There is not makeup for unexcused
absences or for homework or class work you chose not to complete.
Ground Rules for Discussions

Each of us is responsible and accountable for what we say and do. We need to feel
free to share our opinions, but we must do so with respect. Refrain from using
language or terms that may be considered offensive or rude, and avoid statements
or terms that stereotype or group people in a negative manner. Raise your hand
and wait to be called on before speaking to allow more opportunity for all to share.

Per school district policy, no cell phones, MP3 players, IPods, or any other
electronic devices are to be used for personal purposed in the classroom. Upon my
terms, you may be allowed to use electronic devices for educational purposed, but
only after asking to do so or when prompted by the teacher. Otherwise, electronic
devices should be turned off or on silent and out of sight. This is your FIRST
warning. Upon seeing your device once, I will take it and send it to the office. You
will then have to pick it up at the end of the day. Upon the second time of having
your device sent to the office, your parent/guardian will have to come to the school
to retrieve your device. If family needs to reach you during school hours, they need
Electronics
to call the front office and the office will send someone immediately with your
message.
Plagiarism

Each of you is expected to submit your own original independent work. Using
someone else’s work without crediting the source constitutes plagiarism. This
includes, but is not limited to using part or all of another student’s work or using a
completer or partial copy or close paraphrase of a print or Internet text without
crediting the source. The minimum consequence for plagiarism is loss of credit for
the assignment.



Assignments are due on the designated class day.
NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED!
You will have ONE late pass for a major paper or project each quarter (they do not
carry over). Late passes are not for neglected class work or for daily redings or
assignments that will be discussed in class. If you are absent on the day an
assignment is due and your absence in not excused, you will need to use your late
Due Dates
pass. Speak with me EARLY if you are having difficulty with an assignment. If you
are scheduled to present, you must be here to receive a grade. If a draft of a writing
assignment is due for peer review or group project, you must have a draft to
participate; if you do not, you will receive a zero for that part of the assignment.
KEEP ALL OF YOUR WORK.
Revisions

You may revise any major writing assignment. You will receive due dates by which
to make these revisions (usually toward the end of each quarter). You must include
the original scored paper with the revised piece. Revisions turned in after the due
date or without the original scored piece will NOT be graded.

The grading scale is standard:
o A=90-100%
o B=80-89%
o C=70-79%
o D=60-69%
o F= Anything below 60%
You will receive the grade you earned. As a rule, percentages will not be rounded
up. There is NO extra credit. You need to complete the work assigned and make
up work missed after and excused absence.
