Dear Parents and Guardians,
This year the resource classroom will be sending home a Homework Folder containing nightly reading
activities. The reason for this is simple. Research shows that students who read for 30 minutes or more
nightly, from books at their level, will have a much better chance for success at school and beyond. The
more time your child spends reading at his or her independent level, the better reader he or she will
become. Your student is already struggling, which makes this time even more essential!
We need your help! Every night (Monday – Thursday) your child will bring home this folder. It will
contain several activities and readings that your

This person will be the Home Coach. They will be responsible for signing the student’s homework log
when they have completed their 30 minutes.

complete and return the bottom portion of this form to let us know you agree to be the Home Coach.
Home Coach Jobs:
Turn off tv, phone, computer and video games.
Directly observe student completing their reading activities for 30 minutes.
Help correct student errors and talk about activities.
Sign homework log ONLY when 30 minutes is actually completed.
Help ensure students homework folder is returned to their backpack.
Yes, I agree to be the Home Coach for my student. I will make sure he or she completes 30 minutes of
activities from the RESOURCE Homework Folder every night. I will provide 30 minutes of protected quiet
time with no TV, no computers, no phone, and no games. I will ensure I am nearby to keep them focused
and correct any mistakes they are making. I will sign the homework log sheet only when I have actually
observed the reading. I will make every effort to make sure materials are returned safely to school the
next day.
