7th Grade General Math MA07 2013-2014 August 7, 2013 Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome to Fremont Jr. High! I am your student’s Math teacher, Debby Allen. Communication: The Parent Portal is the best form of communication for students and parents and allows you access to your student’s grades, district testing results, schedule, and teacher email. Additionally, I will update my website weekly so you have access to the class calendar which will have assignment topics, test and quiz dates, and the week’s tutoring times. The Fremont Planner is also a valuable tool for information, and students will record the week’s topics and assignments on Monday. Material: In addition to the Fremont Planner, students are required to keep a 3-ring binder in class. This binder will be kept in class to organize student notes, previous assignments and assessments. The binder should include a pencil pouch containing multiple sharpened pencils or a mechanical pencil with extra lead, erasers, highlighter and a red grading pen. Binders must be in class by Monday, August 12. Please contact me if there are any questions or concerns about the materials. Student Work: Daily assignments (homework) are graded with a 4 point rubric, with a 4 indicating a perfect or nearly perfect paper showing mastery of the concept and a 0 indicating no effort to complete the assignment. Homework is considered missing if it is not ready at the start of class. Missing assignments are accepted up to one week after the due date for up to 75% credit. Absent work is accepted for full credit if received within 5 school days. Incomplete assignments are not accepted. Students have until the quarterly due date to retake any tests or quizzes to demonstrate mastery provided they have attended a remediation session. Retakes must be taken before or after school. Extra Credit: Extra Credit is not given. “Bonus” questions are embedded on some assessments. Grading: Class grades are weighted: Tests at 50%, Quizzes at 30%, Daily Assignments at 10%, and Communication/Classwork at 10%. Notes: Students are required to complete notes and keep them organized in their binder or folder. A notes’ check mini-quiz will be given the day before every unit test to check for completeness. Notes should be kept for the year as a means of reviewing material for exams. 7th Grade General Math MA07 2013-2014 Behavior: Discipline is essential for academic progress. No student is allowed to disrupt the learning process for other students. Students are expected to follow the behavior guidelines as stated in the Fremont Planner. I utilize the Fremont’s Step Up to Discipline Plan for misbehavior. This procedure will follow a single and simultaneous process for all disciplinary infractions. Step One: Documented warning and conference with student regarding start of the school discipline process Step Two: Parent contact and immediate logical consequence Step Three: Parent contact and student detention Steps Four and above: Office referral Tutoring: Remediation sessions are provided weekly outside of the school day. Because availability changes weekly, I post the weekly tutoring schedule on the classroom website as well as in the classroom. Please feel free contact me if you have any concerns. I look forward to hearing from you. You may leave an email or a voicemail, and I will return the message promptly. Thank you in advance for your support. Sincerely, Debby D.
