Ryan is a first grader in Mrs. Jacks’ class…
Hi, my name is Ryan Holt. I’m six years old. I love to play soccer and football and baseball. Typical kid stuff.
But all of a sudden I’m not able to simply enjoy kid stuff anymore.
On March 2, 2016, my mom noticed a large lump under my left ear and took me to the emergency room.
They put me in an ambulance right away and took me to Cardon’s Children’s Hospital in Mesa, Arizona.
Two days later and after a lot of tests, the doctors told my mommy and daddy that I have stage 4 cancer …
the rare Burkitt's Lymphoma. Only about 1,200 people in the country have this type and it’s one of the
fastest-growing, most aggressive cancers. The doctors said my cancer had started about two weeks earlier
and was already in my neck lymph nodes, bone marrow, stomach, pancreas and kidneys. If treated
immediately, we have been told it is curable, so I am grateful to the lump and my mommy noticing!
I’ve traded in my soccer ball and baseball games for a hospital room, CT scans, blood tests, spinal taps
and lots of chemo. Wonderful Dr. Smith, one of my three oncologists, says I will have chemo for at least
eight months and maybe longer.
Sometimes we never know why things happen in our lives. My family and I are so appreciative of the love
and prayers and support of so many people. God has blessed us.
There are so many things I want to do in this life but first I must beat this. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Ryan has spent the last chunk of his life in the hospital due to complications with the chemo. He is
currently at home, on a hiatus from treatment.
