ASC Minutes May 6, 2008 Meeting attended by Bob Daugherty, Emily Guss, Mary Shultz, Ling Wang Absent: Deb Blecic 1. ASC - reviewed list of web content appointees. 2. ASC discussed web content writing assignments. There appears to be some confusion regarding this purpose and process. Individuals appear to be responsible for topics across sites. They have been contacting individuals for information and suggestions on wording. The ASC members would like to know if other individuals will be trained to write content. 3. Privacy - this topic was put on hold as the relevant members were not available. 4. The issue of inter-site delivery of print copies of journals was discussed. Kevin does it as a courtesy at times. The option of a pilot project for this service was suggested, but the impact it would have on staffing, equipment, training, and costs would have to be determined. We should collect data to make projections regarding impact by looking at what would happen if these requests were treated as ILL requests 5. Reports from Working Groups RESWRKS Reswrks is moving to common listserv so that all requests are in one place and can be processed by any of the sites, Chicago, or Daley. This will allow units to help others during their downtimes. Reswrks is looking at Blackboard as a possibility for doing e-reserves. It is an easier platform to learn and already commonly used. CIRCWRKS Circwrks will be using bookmarks and posters to encourage preservation of the collection. Language has been changed to accentuate positive perspective: perseveration rather than damage. Mary S mentioned the screen saver that UIUC uses as an example. She will try to find more info. Bob D brought up the status of faculty authorizations (what and to what extent do we extend proxy borrowing beyond faculty). Other issues include allowing the people assigned proxy privilege to get e-signatures rather than physically signed authorizations. ILLWRKS Document Delivery Pilot Project for Global Campus was discussed. This is related to earlier discussion. Requests will be treated like ILL requests and sent to users. Regarding Quad Cities, they have an arrangement with a local hospital and are being served. LHS-Peoria may take on some of their related services such as E-Reserves. Delivery options for international ill requests and related costs were discussed. This is not an LHS issue as they only fill international requests from Canada. Daley receives more international requests and determines service on a case-by-case basis. There may be potential for scanning and sending some requests but physical delivery is very expensive and lacks quality tracking options. The Library Business Office has been asked to look into DHL and other services.
