Agreements
The following items were agreed upon during the meeting.
 Emily and Kira have both been invaluable members of the LET and our Valencia
family. We wish them all the best in their retirements and thank them for their
years of service to Valencia and the LET.
 Kurt Ewen will take over management of the LET webpage from Emily.
 Planning must begin now for LET marketing and communication at the annual
academic assembly. A workteam will meet before our next meeting to plan for
this event.
Assessment Retreat
Several LET members participated in the Assessment Retreat. There was a large
turnout for the event and members reported having a productive conversation. A report
on the outcomes of the day will be produced.
THINK Workshop Update
Emily reported on the final THINK focus groups. More than 20 participants have
already assessed their students with the THINK analytic rubric and more projects will be
coming in over the next two weeks. The holistic scoring by an interdisciplinary team of
ten faculty members will take place on June 3. The ten participants were recruited from
past participants of LET THINK work. The holistic results will be correlated with the
analytic results. The team planning the holistic THINK project includes Jenny Britton,
Kurt Ewen, Celine Kavalec-Miller, Melissa Pedone, and Allison Sloan.
Year of COMMUNICATE Work Team Report
Draft versions of the two rubrics developed for oral and written communication
were discussed. Draft versions of both rubrics will be used with faculty participating in
Destination 2006. A desire was expressed by LET members for a one-page version of the
oral communication rubric with additional criteria available in the online version.
We need plan what to present at the academic assembly to kick-off the Year of
COMMUNICATE and report on the Year of THINK. A group volunteered to meet
before our next LET meeting to plan for the assembly.
Kurt Ewen is on the agenda of the next IAC meeting to build partnerships with
willing deans for Year of COMMUNICATE assessment projects.
Marketing Team Report
 A “banquet” to celebrate faculty participants in the Year of THINK and promote
participation in the Year of COMMUNICATE will be held during the June 9
Destination meeting. Participants in the Year of THINK and their Deans will be
invited.
