Objective 2.2, 2.3, 2.4
Convener: Randall Gordon
Recorder: Roberta Brown
Themes:
 “To, through, and beyond”
 Being proactive not passive
 Planning and staying on track
 We’re not planning just for planning sake. Momentum will drive this work.
Questions or Issues:
 Can we as a college, present to HS students a vision of where they can go next?
 Streamlining the process once they get here and connecting the pieces on the “map” so that
they can get through.
 Dual enrollment as a pathway into Valencia
Suggested Principles:
 Different individuals can adopt roles at different meetings.
 Individuals may adopt multiple roles based upon areas of expertise and interest.
 Meetings should be well organized (agendas, structures, etc.) so that they can be as effective as
possible.
Goal 3 – Invest in Each Other
Objective 3.1
Convener: Gloria Hines
Recorder: Renee Simpson
Key Themes:
Building Pathway
 Requires a collaborative process
 Action require learning and leadership to create quality conditions, program and environments
 Defining the front door and how students experience us requires collaboration with internal and
external stakeholders.
 Building Pathways is a shared understanding of the pathways.
 We need to define, develop, model collaboration.
 Changing mindsets/breaking down silos by showing the connection to the pathway.
Issue:




Teach employees about our goals and their role in that world.
Stay as “objective teams”, then have conveners of each team meet to discuss plans
Share minutes
One large meeting of all objective teams before Big Meeting
Principles:
 Keep 3 suggested
 All ideas pertaining to the topic should be addressed. No topic is too big or small
 Agree to be accountable for the things we propose
 OK to dissent but be respectful
 Reach out to other voices
 Open communication (no hidden agendas)
 We have to think beyond our own roles to consider the needs of others
 Be on time, present, committed and invested in work: an active participant

Learning is a lifelong process
Connection to the message of pathways is easier for faculty
Need to think more broadly in terms of a pathway and who is a part of building the pathway
We do a great job of building pathways for our students, why can’t we apply the same planning
for ourselves?
How do individual jobs fit into the larger picture?
What are ways we can use our partnerships and connections to think “outside the box”
regarding our own professional development (i.e., tuition fees)
Succession Planning Process:
a. Lateral movement early on
b. Assist with broader thinking
Invest in employees potential
9. Mentorship
Goal 3 – Invest in Each Other
Objective 3.3
Convener – Elizabeth Jusino






Access = well employees are present more often to help ensure access
Through = investing in each other allows open dialogue and collaboration to ensure student
success
Through = we at Valencia are role models for students,; being well and investing in each other
carries through to students
Team building through informal conversations allows for strong partnerships and collaboration
Common interests in wellness create trust and relationships outside of group
Wellness offerings show that Valencia cares about employees = pride in work and institution =
more “word of mouth” about opportunities for community
Issues to Address
 Offer different intramural activities, such as yoga, golf, etc. to help students deal with stress
 Make wellness more accessible to students
 Provide time/opportunities for staff to be more involved in activities to help promote
 Offer more mental/emotional health seminars
 Offer more information regarding time management, money management, stress management
 Offer information regarding being responsible in all areas of life
Goal 4 – Partner with the Community
