CLASS TITLE:
STUDENT SERVICES COORDINATOR – DSPS
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, plan, organize, coordinate and participate in a
specialized area of Student Services; provide specialized information, assistance and advice to
students regarding college programs and services.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Generally, the DSPS Student Services Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and
delivery of services to accommodate enrolled students with disabilities, including: exam
accommodations, note takers, sign language interpreters, real-time captioners, mobility
assistants, accessible classroom seating and other academic accommodations as determined
by DSPS counselor/specialists in the student service authorization process. Must maintain
working knowledge of Section 504 and Section 508 amendment of the Rehabilitation Act of
1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) OF 1990, the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA)
of 2008, and other applicable laws, current statutes, litigation and best practices pertaining to
the provision of services to postsecondary students with disabilities. The Student Services
Coordinator works closely with Access Specialist and Assistive Technology Instructional
Assistant II to facilitate the provision of equipment and alternate format materials.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1.
Plan, organize and implement a variety of programs and activities to recruit, retain and
assist students. (E)
2.
Provide specialized information and advice to students regarding educational and career
goals, academic progress, financial problems, disabilities and other related issues. (E)
3.
Develop and conduct studies and analyses to identify need for new programs and
services and evaluate the effectiveness of current programs. May assist in assessment
of student learning outcomes in applicable programs. (E)
4.
Develop and provide orientations, workshops and activities for students and community
groups. (E)
5.
Maintain current knowledge of college curriculum, rules, regulations and guidelines
applicable to assigned student services areas.
6.
Refer students to campus departments or community organizations for assistance as
appropriate.
7.
Compose electronic and printed information in media such as websites, newsletters, and
flyers, publicizing programs and services. (E)
8.
Prepare statistical records and reports related to assigned student services areas;
gather and analyze program data. (E)
9.
Prepare and deliver oral presentations to various audiences including faculty staff, and

community groups.

Prepare and administer program budget as assigned; authorize expenditures according
to established guidelines. (E)

Select, train and supervise student and temporary workers.

Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree and one year closely related work
experience.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver license. Must either be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Lawful Permanent
Resident as required for Designated School Officials per 8 C.F.R. §214.3(l)(1)(i).

WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Not applicable -- not assigned permanent staff to supervise. May provide work direction to
student or temporary workers.
CONTACTS:
Faculty, staff and students, parents, community members and vendors.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing, walking, bending and stooping; occasional light
lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds or less; ability to work at computer, including
repetitive use of computer keyboard, mouse or other control devices; ability to travel to a variety
of locations on and off campus as needed to conduct district business.
EMOTIONAL EFFORT:
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships involving interactions and
communications personally, by phone and in writing with a variety of individuals and/or groups
of individuals from diverse backgrounds on a regular, on-going basis; ability to concentrate on
detailed tasks for extended periods of time and/or intermittently while attending to other
responsibilities; ability to work effectively under pressure on multiple tasks concurrently while
meeting established deadlines and changing priorities.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primarily works in a busy office environment; subject to frequent interruptions by individuals in
person or by telephone; intermittent exposure to individuals acting in a disagreeable fashion.
May work at any district location or authorized facility during day and/or evenings hours
including occasional weekends on an as-needed basis. Occasional local travel may be
requested.
