MIRACOSTA COLLEGE CLASS TITLE: LEAD CUSTODIAN BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, participate in custodial activities and provide work direction and guidance to Custodial and Custodial Utility personnel assigned to maintain college classrooms, offices, and restrooms in a clean and sanitary manner. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Train, assign and provide work direction and guidance to assigned personnel. (E) 2. Inspect work in progress and upon completion and assure that work is performed in compliance with instructions, meeting quality standards. (E) 3. Participate in the performance of custodial work such as cleaning, dusting, polishing, waxing, setting up furniture, equipment and performing minor maintenance. (E) 4. Direct and participate in the total campus cleaning and maintenance function during semester breaks. (E) 5. Assure proper care and use of equipment and materials; track inventory and order supplies as delegated, issue supplies and assure that proper supplies are stored to maintain assigned campus; requisition supplies and parts. (E) 6. Maintain routine records and prepare reports as needed. 7. Direct the cleaning of off campus satellite centers as required. 8. Identify and report building maintenance problems; assure that work orders are prepared and completed; report unusual problems or difficulties to superiors. Use campus online work request system to coordinate setup and work requests. (E) 9. Set, re-set and monitor security alarm system as assigned; respond to emergency situations according to established procedures. (E) 10. Make deliveries of equipment and supplies as directed and/or as needed. 11. Set up for special community and campus events as directed. 12. Open and close classrooms as needed. 13. Plan, organize and coordinate set-up and tear down of facility for all special functions in accordance with requests submitted online. 14. Reset and adjust building controls for automatic lighting and HVAC systems. 15. Perform related duties as assigned. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and disability issues. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and one year closely related and one year directly related work experience. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver license. WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Custodians, substitute custodians and student workers. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate physical labor including frequent lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects weighing up to 75 pounds; frequent to constant standing, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping while performing a variety of general maintenance work including minor equipment repair/replacement, cleaning, moving furniture or equipment, etc.; repetitive use of upper extremities on a regular basis; ability to operate electric cart to travel and/or to pick-up/deliver supplies to a variety of locations on campus; subject to occasional travel to various District locations to work.
