MIRACOSTA COLLEGE CLASS TITLE: ATHLETIC EQUIPMENT MANAGER/INTRAMURALS ASSISTANT BASIC FUNCTION: Athletic Equipment Manager: Under the direction of the Athletic Director and the chair of the Kinesiology, Health, and Nutrition department, maintain the equipment and supplies and budget for Athletics and KHAN; issue, receive, store and repair equipment; purchase uniforms and equipment; assure that equipment and facilities are safe, reliable and prepared for intercollegiate competition and classes in a timely manner according to established schedules. Intramurals Assistant: Under the direction of the Athletic Director/ Student Services CoordinatorIntramurals plan, publicize, and organize intramural athletic activities at the Oceanside and San Elijo campuses. Promote intramural events using various means such as classroom presentations, lunch hour demonstrations, emails, and flyers. Assist in ordering necessary sports and safety equipment. Provide rules and strategies of play for intramural event participants. Select and train student referees. Provide game management for intercollegiate athletic contests and intramural events acting as site/facilities supervisor as necessary. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Develop budget for the purchase of athletic uniforms, equipment, and facilities; coordinate with coaches in determining uniform and equipment needs; coordinate with Athletic Director, coaches, faculty, Facility and Grounds department()s to determine athletic facility needs; prepare bids, contact vendors to determine price, availability and quality of products, purchase and inspect uniforms; manage equipment and athletic facilities to help ensure that they are safe, secure and reliable. Prepare and administer program budget as assigned; authorize expenditures according to established guidelines. [E] 2. Order, receive catalog and store supplies, materials and equipment; direct and participate in inventory of Kinesiology/Athletic equipment and materials, assuring that adequate quantities are available for instructional and athletic contest use; mark equipment with approved identification; collect, inspect, and store equipment at the end of the season. Provide technical assistance in the preparation of specifications for equipment and material purchases; interview vendors to assess new equipment and supplies and recommend selection as requested. Issue and control inventory of athletic uniforms and towels to athletic teams; count and bag soiled athletic uniforms and towels for laundry cleaning; inspect, re-issue or store when returned; coordinate pick up time with teams and vendor before and after regular working hours. Plan and organize usage and orientation of locker room for students, staff and community groups; maintain locker room facilities in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition; maintain and repair lockers. Establish and monitor locker room schedules for meeting spaces for athletic contests. 5. Prepare gymnasium and fields for classes and intercollegiate athletic competition; break down after contests. Inspect weight room and equipment and conduct and/or arrange for repairs as needed. 7. Order, issue, receive, monitor, conduct and/or arrange for repair audio-visual equipment and materials for use in department classrooms, at athletic events or for coaching needs. 8. Train student workers, volunteers, or interns to use specialized equipment at scorer’s table (scoreboard, shot clock, official book). Operate and instruct others in the use of specialized equipment. 9. Plan, publicize, and organize intramural athletic activities at the Oceanside and San Elijo campuses. 10. Prepare statistical reports and maintain related records; prepare forms for equipment outstanding and for transcript holds; assist in monitoring the academic performance of student-athletes; gather and analyze program data. Issue and collect referee vouchers for all intercollegiate contest; help manage referee’s, visiting teams, coaches, fans, volunteers, Athletic Trainers and students during athletic events. 12. Assists with the identification of need for new programs and services and evaluate the effectiveness of current programs. [E] 13. Refer students to campus departments or community organizations for assistance as appropriate. 14. Act as site/facilities supervisor when needed. WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Not assigned permanent staff to supervise. Provides work direction to student workers and/or temporary staff.
