Sample 1 CIPD Management Report Assessing the Recruitment Experience with Co Y Resource Management at ABC By: James Lee Executive Summary In March 2004, Co Y RM became ABC’s on-site recruitment agency, managing the recruitment process for both temporary and permanent employees. Candidates applying directly to ABC are managed by the Talent Resourcing team at Co Y. As a neutral vendor, ABC also sources its candidates from external agencies, and these candidates will also go through the Co Y recruitment process although their primary contact would be their respective consultants from the external agency. Although the performance of Co Y RM has been assessed by its suppliers and Hiring Managers in the past, up until now, no feedback has been gathered from job applicants. This research therefore assesses the recruitment experiences of candidates, and compares the quality of service provided by consultants of Talent Resourcing/Co Y with that of external agencies. The findings of this study seek to provide valuable information to both Co Y and ABC regarding the present performance of Co Y RM, the success of the outsourcing operation, whether the contract with Co Y RM should be renewed, and any other future decisions regarding the ABC recruitment process. 37 ABC employees were sampled using quantitative structured questionnaires. Qualitative research was also conducted through a face-to-face interview with the Account Director of Co Y RM at ABC. Results of this study revealed that candidates were very satisfied with their recruitment experiences at ABC. In particular, they were most satisfied with the recruitment stage at which when they received their final interview. Examples of the other positive findings include the efficiency of the entire recruitment process, the speed of informing candidates about their offers, of consultants in giving timely feedback, the approachability of consultants, and the integrity of all staff representatives. No difference in the quality of service provided between Talent Resourcing/Co Y and external agencies were revealed, and both groups of consultants have been performing very well. No serious problems were identified as all criteria examined received positive ratings. Nevertheless, based on the variables with the lowest relative scores, potential areas for the Co Y recruitment process to improve on were suggested. These include ensuring the quality of service provided does not decrease once candidates are hired, giving a clearer understanding about the role requirements, ensuring expectations conveyed by consultants are met in the actual job, promoting better internal communications, and more. It is recommended that Co Y and ABC should incorporate the present study’s findings along with other measures of recruitment effectiveness. This will help to make more accurate inferences on the performance of Co Y RM. Other findings, practical recommendations, as well as limitations of this study will be addressed.
