The maximum time allowed for completing the course is two years. Admission & prerequisites Educators who hold a 4-year trained teaching qualification or equivalent (eg initial degree and a Diploma of Education or Bachelor of Teaching); or persons working in a related professional field who hold a qualification deemed to be of equivalent standing. In special cases, the Faculty may accept applicants who do not satisfy these requirements. Applicants must be prepared to: • provide evidence of a minimum of three years of counselling or related practice in the human service field; • include the names and contact details of 3 referees; • include a short statement outlining the nature of the counselling process and the reasons for undertaking this program of study; • have a personal interview. The purpose of the interview is to provide applicants with an opportunity to meet teaching staff in order to discuss and expandthe preceding points; • supply an original police record check indicating that the applicant is of good character. Where an applicant has lived outside Tasmania for more than 5 years, a police record check is required from the relevant state or country; • attend a 2-day orientation at Hobart once acceptance into the program has been notified. Professional recognition The program provides entry qualifications for the Professional Counselling Association of Tasmania.
