R6K Graduate Diploma in Asian Studies as at 14th May, 2002 Graduate Diploma in Asian Studies Abbreviation: GradDipAsianStuds Course code: R6K Course contact (faculty or school) (03) 6226 2342 Introductory comments This on-campus course is offered by the Faculty of Arts through the School of Asian Languages and Studies on both the Launceston and Hobart campuses, and may be studied on a full-time basis for 2 semesters in one year or a part-time basis over two years. Admission & prerequisites Students are normally expected to have a minimum of a bachelor degree of the University of Tasmania or of another university or tertiary institution which is deemed equivalent, standard English qualifications for entry to Australian universities, and competence in an Asian language as appropriate to the specific program. In exceptional circumstances the Faculty may admit a person with a tertiary qualification and relevant employment experience. Course objectives The aim of the Graduate Diploma is to enable students from a variety of academic backgrounds to gain knowledge of Asia and expertise in one of the disciplines of Asian Studies, such as theories of political and social change in Asian societies or Asian literatures, which may be built on in further postgraduate research. Career outcomes Enhancement of students’ careers by the achievement of a postgraduate award from a prestigious university. Credit A student who has completed or partly completed units in other honours or postgraduate courses from the University or another approved tertiary institution can apply for credit, up to a maximum of one-third of the course.
