If you have a time conflict with classes or anything else, please let myself or Chase know. The past few meetings have not met quorum and we need to prevent that from happening. a. Interest in the position of Committee Vice-Chair If you are interested in being vice chair, please email me. VIII. IX. Old Business New Business a. Discussion of Robert’s Rules Robert’s Rules has a set of answers for every type of parliamentary question you could have. If a meeting is too long, a meeting can be adjourned. If you are confused, use a point of information. If you want your voice heard or something changed, make an amendment. Robert’s Rules are a predetermined set of rules to ensure meeting efficiency. Amendments can be made of amendments, but that is the furthest it can go. Questions of privilege are not used very often, used for hazards and such. Points of order are in regard to parliamentary procedure. Points of information are to understand the agenda fully or what is being discussed. Overriding a presidential veto must be passed by 2/3 vote override. This is important because we represent the Student Body so we have to be on top of what is happening. The governing document of our meetings is Robert’s Rules. I have created a packet with all of this information. o Senator Smith: Are “motion” and “move” the same thing? –Yes. b. Discussion of Absence Hearings Absence hearing will include the total points, the dates and events missed, and whether or not a form was turned in. A motion can be made to remove full points or partial points. If no points are removed, they can go through impeachment or they can resign. The absence form can have all points removed, partial, or none; it is up to the decision of the Senate President. Ran through mock absence hearing. There is a voluntary process to get points removed. o Senator Smith: How many points does missing a Senate meeting hold? –One point at the beginning roll call and one at the end, for a total of two. The same applies to committee meetings. o Senator Cajuste: Are there certain excuses that will remove all points? –Class schedule, medical emergencies and such will obviously be taken into account but it is the student’s responsibility to provide us with that information. X. Announcements If you have any issue with committee attendance, let me know please. Again, let me know about your interest in being vice chair. Osprey Voice is this week, please be in attendance.
