small groups.
John Kemppainen believes COEHS enrollment goals will go above 96% now that summer B registration is
over. By early next week the final numbers should be available. Dr. Kemppainen said there is a fairly
good pool of transfer students (about 83 students) for the fall semester. Dr. Kemppainen briefly
commented on the annual meeting he attended for the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers. The state
now requires all scholarship monies be returned to the state if the original scholarship recipient does
not accept the award.
Jennifer Kane announced they have their first international sports management student from England.
The student will be enrolled during the summer b semester.
Dr. O’Farrell is offering a clinical educator training on August 13 and 14, from 8:30 – 3:30, in room 1250.
Please RSVP to Jean Leone so the correct number of materials can be provided. Also, if you know of
anyone outside UNF that might be interested, please let them know.
Update on Conversations with Jacksonville Public Education Fund
The two open sessions were very useful as far as understanding ideas and topics faculty and staff
brought forward during those conversations. One more additional group meeting is in the planning
stage.
Barnett Berry Visit to Jacksonville – August 7-9
Barnett has been looking at the reform of teacher education and what that means. Barnett has built
virtual communities having teachers talking among themselves about the work they are doing and
ultimately focusing on teacher-led educational reform. Deborah Gianoulis would like to get a group
more formally structured then seek out external money to create a teacher learning project. Barnett
would like to provide the virtual community part and pull this local effort into a bigger picture. Dr.
Cornett will talk to his colleagues and to Deborah Gianoulis in regards to Barnett’s planned visit to
Jacksonville August 7th through August 9th.

Update on FDOE Accreditation Visit
Dr. Torres gave an update on each department’s progress for the upcoming FDOE accreditation visit. Dr.
Torres is waiting for feedback from the departments as how she can support these efforts. Dr. Torres
will populate the IPEPs with the narrative that will be provided to the departments. The timeframe for
completion of IPEPs and matrices should be by mid-September.
Dr. Kane gave an update on a letter she received from CACREP; they will be visiting in October to review
the school counseling program.
Review of the Urban Internship Budget (Handout)
Linda Sciarratta presented the proposed urban internship budget for FY 2013-14. The only major change
was Duval County would not be renewing the MOU. Linda asked Dr. O’Farrell to update the group
regarding this. Dr. O’Farrell shared that the Duval County school district has determined not to fund the
two Duval County clinical instructors who are primarily responsible for teaching the field classes. The
MOU for the professional development schools and the four resident clinical faculty are still in place.
One of the former clinical instructors, Melissa Omeechevarria, has agreed to act as a visitor and join the
field office in the fall. Dr. Daniel and Dr. O’Farrell have begun reflecting on how they will proceed with
the funds from the two positions.
Other
Linda Sciarratta shared with the chairs that the proposed urban internship budget has a deficit of
15,000+ therefore, cannot afford the allocation for recruitment materials at this time. Because of the
cost associated with the interpreter program, Dr. Patterson asked for an allocation to support
recruitment and will provide Linda an estimate for this expense.
It was requested that Dr. Daniel send out communication regarding program leader stipends and what
departments can expect for the future.
