College Leadership Team July 1, 2015 Present – Jeff Cornett, Jennifer Kane, John Kemppainen, Cathy O’Farrell, Karen Patterson, Nicole Pece, Megan Possinger, Linda Sciarratta, John Venn Call to order – The meeting was called to order at 9:35 a.m. Minutes- June 17 minutes were approved Announcements Dr. Kane introduced and welcomed Nicole Pece to the COEHS, Nicole is the new director of development for the college. Department chairs and directors please engage and introduce ways for faculty to communicate with Nicole. Dr. Kemppainen attended the Florida minority teacher meeting and shared highlights from the meeting. Two scholarships are available yearly per school in the state. Currently there are 17 Florida minority teacher scholars in COEHS and two more will be added for the fall semester. After graduation, students who do not teach in a public or charter school their scholarship will convert to a loan. In 2016 there will be a 20 year anniversary black tie gala – more information will be forthcoming. Outside Activity Reports – JJK The reporting of outside activity reports is now an online process (no more paper forms will be used). Emails were distributed to define policy procedures and approval parameters. There is a link in My Wings under the staff tab “Employee Online Forms”. Please let the dean’s office know if there is anything to make this process easier for your department and faculty. Graduate Assistants Update JJK/LS At this time, monies will be held and rolled over to graduate students/assistants coming in during 2016. The dean’s office requested money with non-recurring but it was not approved. The dean’s office will look at the urban internship budget – this will be discussed upon the Dean’s return from the UK. Dr. Kane also shared correspondence she recently received about distance learning monies – more discussion to follow. Core meeting update – JJK Dr. Kane shared information regarding the Core meeting which was called to discuss undergraduate core. The intent was to educate everyone on what is currently being done in the core courses. A conceptual framework will be developed when Dr. Kane reconvenes the core meeting in the fall and base the meeting on the guiding principles of core curriculum Faculty Associate Positon – JJK It was recommended that Dr. Katrina Hall continue the faculty associate position through the fall semester submitting grant proposals to research the center. Spring 2016 Course Input deadlines – JJK It is a challenge to try to eliminate making changes to the spring 2016 schedule. The team discussed concerns related to course schedules that are due way in advance of the actual semester. Fall Course Review – JJK Dr. Kemppainen gave an update on the enrollment numbers for the fall 2015 semester. Dr. Kane and the department chairs/directors had a discussion to review each departments fall course schedule. Meeting adjourned at 12:05
