Chair Lance Taylor welcomed David Fenner, Associate Dean, COAS will replace Peter Braza on
the UTC.
Security Device Policy:
o UNF hired a Security Consultant almost 6 years ago.
o Recommendations from the CMT include:
 Formation of a sub-group - Technical Security Committee - Chaired by Lance
Taylor.
 Security Device Policy started out as a policy for cameras only.
 Policy will be enforced for all new cameras on campus with the exception of
Research and Instructional cameras, and will not apply to camera already
installed.
 With the help of Michael Biagini the TSC has developed an on-line form which
will have to be filled out prior to new camera being purchased. Until the form
is available on-line, direct all questions to Lance Taylor.
 There are no hidden security cameras in buildings, but UPD does have an
extended number of cameras positioned around the campus.
Portable Computer Procedures:
o All new purchases of portable devices (laptops) need to be equipped with a
computrace chip, which will be added to the cost of the computer - $60.00 for 4 years
of coverage. Existing university computers can be equipped with this device, and if
you are interested, please contact Jeff Durfee.

Template Demo to Campus on 7-7-09
Feedback received from Demo to campus community - concerned about resources to do the
migration work
Currently in an 8 week catch-up period to improve communications
Out of 65,000 current web pages almost 40% are dormant
Units need to be looking at their sites and determining what needs to be deleted/updated prior
to migration
CMS website will be live by the end of July and will contain information about preparation prior
to and during migration of a website.

Have not had a formal meeting
Academic use of SSNs - One issue associated with the use of SSNs for academic or course
work has been the need to establish a known range of safe, fake SSNs that can be used for
testing. The Campus Technology Committee (CTC) has provided the following information and
recommendation: A Social Security Number (SSN) consists of nine digits, commonly written as
three fields separated by hyphens: AAA-GG-SSSS. The first three-digit field is called the "area
number". The central, two-digit field is called the "group number". The final, four-digit field is
called the "serial number". The area numbers are assigned to geographical locations (ex: FL =
261-267). According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), the area numbers 900-999
are not valid. Current SSA documents claim no numbers above 799 have ever been used.
Additionally, any number beginning with 000 will NEVER be a valid SSN. Numbers in the 800899 range HAVE been used at UNF for students without a valid SSN (primarily foreign
students), so should not be used for other purposes. Suggestion: Either use an area code of
000 or 999 and then randomly assign other numbers for group and serial numbers.
